Many men struggle with impotence. Already over 3 million men in Poland have erectile dysfunction. In order to counteract them, many men decide to use appropriately selected medicinal preparations. Maxon is one of them. What properties does it have? What are the opinions about it? What information does the leaflet of this medicine contain? Here is some information.
Maxon – characteristics
Maxon is a prescription drug. You can get it from the pharmacy in the form of coated tablets with a dose of 100 mg of the active substance in packages containing 4 or 8 tablets. Preparations similar to Maxon are Maxon Active with 25 mg and Maxon Forte with a dose of 50 mg of active substance.
Maxon – composition
The active substance of the drug Maxon there is sildenafil in the form of citrate. The other ingredients are:
- microcrystalline cellulose,
- hydroksypropyloceluloza,
- croscarmellose sodium,
- magnesium stearate,
- colloidal anhydrous silica,
- Opadry II coating 31F58914 white, containing 15cP hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 4000 and sodium citrate dihydrate.
Maxon – indications
Maxon is intended for adult men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. They concern both the total inability to achieve an erection and the problems with maintaining it (the duration of an erection is too short for satisfactory sexual intercourse).
The manufacturer, however, emphasizes that Maxon is intended only for men over 18 years of age. In addition, sexual stimulation is necessary to achieve an erection. The purpose of the drug Maxon is only to maintain it and enable intercourse. The drug does not produce an erection by itself.

Maxon – properties
The drug Maxon contains an active substance called sildenafil (sildenafil). It belongs to the medicinal preparations from the group of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. Maxon has properties supporting the relaxation of smooth muscles in the cavernous bodies of the penis. This action, in turn, helps to increase blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal.
Maxon – dosage
The leaflet contains dosing information. Maxon is used in the amounts specified by the doctor or pharmacist. The usual recommended dose is 25 mg.
The tablet Maxon should be taken about one hour before the planned sexual intercourse. The drug is used orally with a glass of water. However, it is not recommended to take Maxon more than once a day.
Maxon should be used initially at a dose of 50 mg. This amount should be taken about 1 hour before planned sexual activity. If necessary, the given dose can be increased to 100 mg or reduced to 25 mg. The manufacturer of the drug Maxon does not recommend taking doses higher than 100 mg. You should also not use the drug more than once a day.
Maxon, like other drugs in this group, is best absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral ingestion on an empty stomach. Keep in mind that the tablet may work more slowly around a meal, especially if the food you eat is a fat or heavy meal. Maxon taken on an empty stomach is absorbed after 30 minutes (up to 2 hours). The absorption time depends on the individual predispositions of the patient.

Maxon – contraindications
The drug should not be taken in situations where:
- there is an allergy to any component of the preparation,
- the patient takes nitrates. Taking them together with Maxon may lead to a reduction in blood pressure. You should also inform the specialist when the patient is taking preparations from the group of nitrates,
- the patient is taking medicinal preparations that release nitric oxide,
- you are taking riociguat, which is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension
- the patient has had a stroke or heart attack,
- you have hereditary degenerative changes in the retina, such as retinitis pigmentosa,
- the patient developed visual loss not associated with arteritis of anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.
The leaflet of Maxon also contains information on possible side effects and additional information. The drug helps to achieve an erection only when sexually aroused. The time when a positive effect of Maxon takes place may be different for specific men. Usually, the patient feels the beneficial effects after half an hour after taking the preparation, but sometimes this time may be extended to one hour.
Maxon – special groups of patients
Elderly people do not need to modify the given dose – this should be done if the health condition requires it.
People with hepatic impairment or suffering from severe renal impairment should consider reducing the Maxon dose to 25 mg – if they respond well to the drug, an increase in the dose to 50 mg or 100 mg may be considered.

Maxon – overdose
The manufacturer of Maxon warns against exceeding the dose given in the leaflet or the one determined by the doctor. A dose higher than the recommended dose will not increase the effectiveness, nor will it accelerate the action of Maxon, and may negatively affect the patient’s health.
A patient who increases the dose of Maxon on his own runs the risk of developing symptoms of overdose. If the effect of Maxon seems inappropriate, and therefore too strong or too weak, the patient should inform the doctor about it. Only he can modify the given dose and adjust it to the needs of a given person.
Symptoms of Maxon overdose do not pose a threat to the life and health of the patient, this situation should be avoided as it increases the risk of side effects. They may be of greater than normal intensity. The most common effects of an overdose of Maxon include:
- headache and dizziness;
- blurred vision;
- hot flushes;
- dyspeptic complaints.
If side effects appear after taking a higher dose of Maxon, the patient’s condition should be assessed. Management consists of observing the patient and introducing standard supportive care. Importantly, dialysis is not used in this case, because Maxon is not excreted in the urine.

Maxon – interactions
Maxon should not be used while taking certain medications because it interacts with them. Remember not to use Maxon simultaneously with:
- other potency medications;
- drugs belonging to the group of nitrates or with the effect of releasing nitric oxide, regardless of the form of the preparation – risk of lowering blood pressure;
- drugs with a stimulating effect on guanylate cyclase.
Some drugs only require a dose reduction, as they do not preclude the use of sildenafil. This applies, inter alia, to medicines containing ritonavir. In this case, the lowest possible dose should be taken, i.e. 25 mg for 48 hours.
Caution should be exercised in men taking alpha-blockers that cause hypotension. The risk may be reduced if the drug is administered in a haemodynamically stable state. There are no data on the safety of using Maxon together with drugs belonging to PDE5 inhibitors.

The drug Maxon has various opinions. These are mostly positive statements. You can read them on many internet forums and portals. Men who use the drug Maxon praise it primarily for its quick and effective action – many men manage to get a satisfactory erection in just half an hour.
