Mattifying face cream

As it turned out, the cream for excess skin shine – it is also matting – is useful not only for owners of oily skin. To whom else dermatologists recommend it and for what purpose, we will tell right now.

Why you need a mattifying cream

“I have oily skin, so I need a mattifying face cream,” a judgment that is only partially true. Yes, the mattifying formula contains components that absorb excess moisture and oil, and at the same time promise to narrow the pores. It would seem that all this is necessary only for owners of oily skin. But no.

“Matifying products can be useful for almost everyone,” says Marina Kamanina, an expert dermatologist for the Garnier brand.

Normal skin is mixed skin. And during the day, the secretion of sebaceous glands in the T-zone is the norm. So matting will be in place.

When to Use a Mattifying Cream

More sebum and sweat are released in hot weather and during periods when we are worried. As a result, the face begins to shine, and we become even more nervous. This means that a matting cream is a must:

  1. during the warm season;

  2. in a warm / hot room;

  3. when it’s a busy day.

“If the skin is shiny and secretes fat, this is not a reason for panic, but one of the manifestations of the normal functioning of the skin,” says Marina Kamanina. “You also probably noticed: before the start of the menstrual cycle, the skin becomes more oily, then the intensity of sebum secretion subsides.” If this pattern is familiar to you, the conclusion suggests itself: it is worth stocking up on a matting agent for the premenstrual and menstrual periods.

For owners of oily skin, dermatologists “prescribe” matting in addition to such cosmetic procedures as ultrasonic cleaning and chemical or gas-liquid peeling. Massage with a cool stream of oxygen cleanses pores, improves complexion and retouches fine lines. And matting creams support the effect of the procedures.

Operating principle

Mattifying products contain components that can absorb excess moisture and oil, as well as reduce sebum production and narrow pores. These are mineral salts, minerals of volcanic origin, silicon and zinc salts. How do they work?

  • Mineral salts, such as perlite, are substances of volcanic origin that form when lava reaches temperatures above 800 degrees Celsius. Garnier brand matting products use perlite, which is mined in the mountainous regions of Turkey. When it hardens, it forms a finely porous structure that absorbs moisture – in other words, it dries the skin.

  • silicon salts – the most common ingredients in the category of matting products. Also a great absorbent.

  • Zinc salts have a sebum-regulating property, that is, they control the production of sebum and reduce oiliness of the skin day after day. At the same time, they do not clog pores and do not block the work of the glands themselves.

  • Silicones – necessary and important components, no matter what they say about them and no matter what harmful properties they attribute. The main task of silicone is to smooth the relief of the skin and thereby facilitate the application of foundation.

Mattifying creams tend to contain more water than oils. By texture, these are most often light lotions, fluids or gels that are instantly absorbed and do not leave sticky and greasy marks.

What is best avoided in matting products is talc. “Many people think that the simpler and clearer the composition, the better the product works,” explains Marina Kamanina. – Seeing talc in the list of components, the girls immediately rush to buy it – it’s familiar, which means it should be harmless. But this is an outdated approach. Talc just clogs pores and contributes to the formation of closed and open comedones – acne and blackheads.

Matting creams contain absorbent ingredients such as silicon and zinc salts.

How to choose the right moisturizing mattifying cream

If you choose a cream for oily skin, do not forget that it also needs to be moisturized, because with the wrong aggressive care, such skin becomes dehydrated.

This happens due to the fact that in an effort to get rid of shine, oily skin is overdried with cleansing scrubs and washing gels, thereby damaging the hydrolipid layer and stimulating moisture loss. The cream should not only get rid of oily sheen, but also restore the protective barrier.

If you have oily skin, don’t skip your nighttime routine for fear of overloading your skin with more make-up. Skin of any type needs to restore its reserves at night. Oily sheen does not upset you at night, so matting the skin at night is not necessary, but moisturizing is a must.

Rules of application

  • Purification

    Before applying a moisturizing mattifying cream, it is necessary to cleanse and prepare the skin. To do this, use cleansing products – tonic, lotion or Clarisonic MIA 2 apparatus with a brush head for washing and deep cleansing of pores.

  • humidification

    Warm a small amount of cream (about the size of a pea) in your palms. Apply to the face, paying special attention to the T-zone – it is she who begins to shine first.

  • Applying makeup

    It is better to apply a moisturizing matting cream 15 minutes before applying foundation – so it will have time to work: smooth the skin and visually narrow the pores.
