A woman has many pleasant emotions associated with going on maternity leave. This is legal rest for a pregnant woman, and worries about the baby’s dowry, and repairs in the future nursery. Therefore, a woman really wants to know when exactly her long-awaited maternity leave will come.

Maternity leave: when to go on maternity leave

The right of a pregnant woman to go on maternity leave

To calculate when a pregnant woman will no longer need to go to work, you need to know:

  • estimated due date
  • number of fruits
  • number of days of unused paid vacation

Before the start or at the end of maternity leave, you can spend unused days of work

The date of future birth is calculated by the obstetrician-gynecologist when registering for pregnancy according to the data on the day of the beginning of the last menstruation and the results of an ultrasound scan. The ultrasound examination will also reveal how many children a woman will have. How many days of labor leave before decree can be used can be calculated by an accountant at work.

Maternity leave is provided:

  • from 30 weeks for a period of 140 days in the normal course of childbirth and the birth of one baby
  • from 30 weeks for a period of 156 days in case of complicated childbirth (for example, during a caesarean section)
  • from 28 weeks to 194 days with multiple pregnancies

If childbirth begins later than the date calculated by the doctor, then the days of the prenatal part of the maternity leave are not shortened. In the case of early childbirth, the postpartum part increases. But these points do not affect the total length of the vacation.

How to calculate the date of leaving for maternity leave

To find out the exact date from which you can go on maternity leave, you need to know the length of your pregnancy. The starting point is the day the last period started. It is necessary to count 30 weeks from it (28 in case of multiple pregnancy) – this will be the date when the obstetrician-gynecologist is obliged to issue a sick leave to the pregnant woman, and the woman will be able to go on maternity leave.

If the day of the beginning of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman is unknown, the date can be established based on the results of an ultrasound examination. The most accurate data can be obtained if an ultrasound procedure is performed at 10-12 weeks of pregnancy.

To go on maternity leave earlier than the deadline specified in the law, unused days of annual paid leave can be timed to the date of maternity leave.

Also, if you feel unwell, you can take a break from work on sick leave, or contact your superiors with an application for an unpaid leave. True, providing a pregnant woman with such days off is not an obligation, but the right of the employer.

If work before the decree became completely unbearable, then it is possible to reduce the working day of the pregnant woman, as well as transfer her to easier work.
