For the Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall / Winter 2015/16 show, Peter Philips, Creative Director of Makeup for Dior, created a natural, minimal look inspired by Flemish painting.
“This makeup has a very clean aesthetic,” explains Peter Philips. “It echoes the very modern collection of Raf Simons, combines with impressive volumetric silhouettes to create an ephemeral image of the heroine of our day.”
“This young girl has an angelic beauty, but at the same time there is an elusive seductiveness in her,” adds the makeup artist. “She seemed to have stepped out of one of the Flemish paintings and looks like a girl from Botticelli’s paintings in version 2.0”.
The models were given a light tone that slightly illuminates the skin. As Peter Phillips explains, he wanted to create the impression of slightly damp skin. “I used Diorskin Star Foundation, which I carefully shaded to create a perfectly even and radiant finish, and the new Fix It Concealer to mask redness. Finally, I added some Skinflash highlighter to complete the flawless look. “
“I kept my eyes clean, except for a light touch with Pareo Diorshow Mono. I applied them with the pad of my finger and then blend them lightly to the temples. “
“The lips looked completely natural with the subtle sheer shine of the Lip Maximizer.”
“I chose the shade Dior Vernis 413 Grege, which matches the skin tone for a well-groomed effect.”
The hairstyles at the show were traditionally done by stylist Guido Palau. Like makeup, the styling looked very natural, in the spirit of Botticelli’s paintings. Long hair was curled in light waves that fell gently over the shoulders.
