Massage for a baby 3 months old: what is needed, how to do it right
At the age of three months, the child becomes more active. His body is preparing for the upcoming changes – in 2-3 months the baby will learn to sit on the ass, and then walk. To strengthen the muscles faster, it is recommended to massage the baby for 3 months.
What massage do babies need
Usually, parents decide on a massage for an infant if there are specific reasons for this. In most cases, it is necessary for children with developmental problems.
Depending on this, the type of massage may vary:
- At the age of 3 months, the baby should be able to hold the head. Some children develop this skill slowly. This is often observed in premature babies, as well as poorly gaining weight. If the neck muscles are poorly developed, the child should be laid out on his tummy more often and massage should be performed in the shoulder area.
- In babies, the increased tone of the flexor muscles of the arms and legs disappears. It is necessary to carry out exercises during which these muscles are strengthened. In this case, the legs and arms are massaged along the entire length.
- If the baby has bloating, a special tummy massage is required.
The main methods used for massage at this age are vibration, shaking, stroking and rubbing. Massaging movements are performed with the fingertips. Before each reception, stroking is necessarily used to relax the muscles and calm the child’s nervous system.
How to do a general massage correctly
Each part of the baby’s body must be massaged taking into account certain requirements:
- Hand massage begins with light stroking, gradually introducing rubbing, and then gentle shaking. Be sure to stretch your palms and fingers. After all, there are many points here that stimulate the activity of internal organs.
- A clockwise massage is used for the tummy. You can also gently press your little finger into your belly button and tighten the skin around it to prevent a hernia.
- In order to prevent bloating and constipation, the baby’s legs are bent at the knees, pressing them against the tummy.
- Foot massage is performed in the same way as for hands. You should also pay special attention to the fingers and feet.
- The back is massaged by stroking from the bottom up. Then more intense kneading movements are used.
You can use other massage options, but always taking into account the age characteristics of the baby.
Before starting the procedure, you should consult with your pediatrician. The doctor can advise on what techniques are right for a particular child.
