Masks for damaged hair: reviews

I have long, fine hair that is prone to dryness at the ends and oily at the roots. That is why I wanted to try the Kerastase Cristalliste mask, which, according to the description, is designed just for damaged long hair of any thickness. I am very careful in choosing hair care products and do not tolerate silicones. Actually, this was the second reason why I wanted to try the product: there are no silicones in it. On the contrary, the composition contains many useful ingredients, such as dry oil, ceramides, polymers and Kandilil wax. The manufacturer promises nutrition, softening, protection from aggressive environmental influences, elasticity, easy styling and much more. Ideally, after the mask, the hair should be smooth, shiny, mobile and protected. In addition, the Kerastase Cristalliste mask is marketed as a wash-off base for styling. So what was the result on my long hair just below the shoulder blades? The consistency of the mask is similar to a thick shampoo with a gel-cream texture. As for the smell, I didn’t really like it: a typical cosmetic one with notes of flowers and some kind of chemistry. But the texture seemed perfect to me: it is very light, does not weigh the hair down and fits well over the entire length. In order to cover all the hair (ten centimeters below the roots), I needed very little product. I usually keep the mask for five to seven minutes, applying it immediately after shampoo and conditioner, I don’t even dry it with a towel. I liked the result: the hair became soft and shiny after the first application. And after several uses, the hair began to look very well-groomed and beautiful.

But the Kerastase Cristalliste mask also has a couple of drawbacks: firstly, the unnatural smell of the mask does not disappear until the evening, and secondly, the hair quickly loses its lightness, and at the same time not on the roots, where I do not apply the mask, namely on those prone to dryness of the tips.

Dry and damaged hair needs special care, and moisturizing and nourishing masks play almost the main role in it. Therefore, it is difficult to recommend the Secret Professionel by Phyto Masque Richesse Intense mask for girls with very dry curls, but it is possible and necessary for owners of dry hair or normal hair suffering from regular hot styling. The product is not suitable for express care – you need to keep it on your hair for about 15–20 minutes, for those who like to sleep and you cannot recommend it to those who are always late.

The manufacturer promises to strengthen and restore damaged hair, restore their beauty and shine. Passion flower and shea oils, as well as hibiscus extract, are responsible for this. In general, the composition of the Masque Richesse Intense mask will appeal to picky lovers of deep moisturizing: there are enough natural ingredients in it, but there are no silicones. The product is part of the Secret Professionel by Phyto yellow moisturizing line and is intended for dry and damaged hair or hair that is going to be curled and dyed.

The first thing that attracts attention when you get acquainted with the mask is a deep, rich, slightly oily nutty smell. Which, in general, is not surprising for a mask with such a composition. The second is an unusual, too dense and seemingly slightly heterogeneous consistency. Masque Richesse Intense seems to crumble in the hands, evenly distributing it over wet hair is not an easy task. After a couple of weeks of use, the dry and fluffy ends of the hair began to look better, and the hair in general was healthier. To the touch, the curls became denser, but, alas, did not shine more noticeably. But maybe the reason lay in the fact that I rarely kept the mask on my hair for 20 minutes prescribed by the manufacturer.

How to straighten hair with a hairdryer or iron without damaging it and achieving not only absolute smoothness, but also a mirror shine? Only with the help of special products, which include Redken Two Smooth 03 Smoothing & Strengthening Serum Duo. True, with some reservations: the product does not have thermal protective properties, and it contains an impressive list of silicones.

The manufacturer promises to tame fluffy curls, give them a satin sheen, and at the same time strengthen and restore them. The best effect can be achieved by using the serum in combination with other Redken products, such as duo shield 07. The product is considered two-phase: there are two flasks in the jar, and two holes in the dispenser. Strange, but the composition of the product on the packaging is not divided into phases, which simply makes Redken suspect of trickery: the same product is poured into both flasks, but in one it is simply tinted pink.

The word “serum” in the name of the Redken product gives the deceptive impression that it is about leaving. In fact, Two Smooth 03 Smoothing & Strengthening Serum Duo is a product intended more likely to complete styling, a kind of final touch. Spread it evenly over dry and smoothed hair to achieve a pronounced shine. Applying to wet strands turned out to be pointless – despite a sufficient amount of funds, the curls seemed dry and tangled. The effect of using REDKEN Two Smooth 03 Smoothing & Strengthening Serum Duo lasts exactly until the next shampooing, immediately after the magic shine disappears. After a week of regular use, I put the product on the shelf and concluded that the creators of the brand made a good lifesaver for those special occasions when the image requires perfectly smooth and shiny hair, but using this serum is constantly pointless.

Due to the fact that I had to visit hot countries quite often, I began to feel a lack of moisture in my skin and hair. This was especially reflected in the hair: it became dry, brittle, and lost its former shine.

I had never used Wella professional cosmetics before and, to be honest, was at first rather skeptical about the proposal to test the new Balance scalp mask for sensitive scalp. Well, good, high-quality products cannot be so affordable – that was my first thought.

And I was wrong. Wella professional’s Balance scalp intensive mask for sensitive scalp pleasantly surprised me. Just what dry and weak hair needs. Very pleasant smell, delicate texture, easily absorbed and washed off without leaving an oily sheen. It replenishes the lack of moisture and protects hair from the harmful effects of sunlight. At the same time, you do not feel discomfort – there is no feeling of tightness, peeling and dryness. The mask soothes and moisturizes the sensitive scalp, the hair is easy to comb, becomes soft and easy to style. I was also captivated by the fact that the mask begins to work almost immediately after application. For me, this is a plus, since time is usually sorely lacking.

Paul Mitchell’s Super Strong Daily Treatment Hair Mask is designed for severely damaged, permanently treated and blonded hair. Since my hair cannot be categorized as “severely damaged”, this is probably why I did not feel the desired effect. I wanted to use this mask to give my hair strength and shine.

The consistency of the mask is heavy, it looks more like wax, it is quite difficult to squeeze it out of the tube and difficult to distribute through the hair. At the same time, the mask has a pleasant caramel smell, so in general it was pleasant to apply it to the hair. The hair after the mask is a little easier to detangle and comb, but after drying the hair, there was a certain heaviness, as if after using a foam or mousse for volume.

I used this cosmetic product for a month, but did not understand what the result was. After applying the mask, the hair became softer, but the same effect would have been after using a regular hair conditioner, and the hair became more shiny, but only for a few hours after application.

I first tried KeratinRestoreLuxeOilLine from SystemProfessional with argan, jojoba and almond oil during a hair restoration procedure at Dmitry Vinokurov’s beauty salon. I was pleased with the result: the hair shone like after dyeing or laminating, and became softer. Of course, I did not hesitate to start using new products (shampoo, mask and dry oil) at home. At the same time, the salon stylist advised to use the mask not only for its intended purpose (leave it on towel-dried hair for about 10 minutes once or twice a week), but also as a conditioner: use it after shampoo and rinse it off after two to three minutes. I can say that my hair really began to look much better after the first shampooing, and this effect has been preserved to this day. Perhaps, the point is that I use all the means in combination, which is important in order to see a positive result. But I was especially impressed by the dry oil that I applied to my hair before and after styling, paying special attention to the ends of the hair. By the way, in addition to its regenerating properties, it also protects the hair. This was a plus for me, as I often use a styler to straighten my hair.
