PSYchology

This animated picture is made without any concessions to the alleged infantilism of the art of animation. It is about adult and important. Even though it’s about a child.

This animated picture is made without any concessions to the alleged infantilism of the art of animation. It is about adult and important. Even though it’s about a child. Once an eight-year-old Australian found a pen pal. This is an adult resident of New York, overweight and completely incapable of contact with other people. And with Mary by mail — please. And for 20 years they wrote to each other regularly, not embarrassed to tell the most secret. Their letters are about Max’s New York chaos and Mary’s rural regularity, about autism, psychiatry, dog weddings, alcoholism, where children come from and religious prejudices… And the wonderful animator Elliot managed to film this correspondence with the same inimitable intonation with which Max and Mary wrote to each other, of innocence, but far from naivete.

Director: Adam Elliot.
