The name of the drink is associated with the method of determining the quality of vodka in the old days. After distillation, several measures of “bread wine,” as vodka was previously called, were set on fire, and the alcohol content in the product was determined from the amount of water remaining after the alcohol burned out.
Historical reference. Initially, the trademark belonged to the Soyuz-Victan company, well-known at the beginning of the century, but in 2009 it went bankrupt and its brands were acquired by an investment firm from Luxembourg, Eastern Beverage Company, and vodka was produced in Ukraine. Now the trademark belongs to the Russian Vodka Holding group of companies established in 2014. And on the Mernaya label, various licensed manufacturers can be identified, from Kristall-Lefortovo to Gosspirtkontrol LLC.
