We are talking about the abandoned Croix Rouge metro station. Its fate is very interesting and goes back to the pre-war years of the last century.
Croix Rouge station began work on December 30, 1923, and was closed on September 2, 1939 during the outbreak of World War II. Then many metro employees were mobilized. Since then, trains did not stop at this station; after the war, the station was recognized as too close to the neighboring station Sèvres-Babylon and was no longer opened.
The architectural studio Same Architectes decided that it was impermissible to forget about this station, as it represents the architectural, cultural and symbolic heritage of Paris and proposed its own project for the reconstruction of the station.
According to the studio’s plan, a restaurant, market or a 9-meter cocktail bar should appear here at a depth of 600 meters on two platforms with a total area of about 75 square meters.
On the northern platform of the converted station, there will be an underground market and a food court with local products. A restaurant with a cocktail bar will open on the southern platform, which will use products from the market located on the opposite platform.
This interesting project was the winner of the Réinventer Paris 2 competition for the reconstruction of the city. This means that all the proposed ideas will have a real embodiment. The opening of the station after reconstruction is scheduled for late 2021.
We will remind, earlier we wrote about how to prepare an exquisite French lunch.
