The idea of a child and his place in the world changes from one historical era to another. This means that the idea of what kind of literature is suitable for children’s reading is changing along with it. Philologist Marina Kostyukhina dedicated her book to the study of the metamorphoses that children’s books in Russia underwent over a hundred years — from the middle of the XNUMXth to the second half of the XNUMXth century, from naive moralizing stories (which today hardly anyone wants to read to their son or daughter) to everyday story and fairy tale, which have not lost their relevance to this day. And although formally, the Golden Mirror is about literature – about genres, trends, writers and works – in reality, it is much more interesting for the author to observe how the attitude towards the child in Russian society and culture evolves during this period. And so that her reasoning does not sound unfounded, Marina Kostyukhina included in the book a selection of fragments from old children’s books and illustrations for them.
