Who owns our — female — breasts? Us women? But let’s think: who determines what shape and size it should be? Are we ourselves? Or maybe the men we want to like? Or fashion designers who explain what we have to become in order to please men? Or our culture in general?

Marilyn Yal’s research is a thorough cultural analysis that combines depth of approach with ease of presentation. In Russia, Marilyn Yalom is less known than her famous husband, psychotherapist and novelist Irvin Yalom. Meanwhile, she is also an extraordinary person. Graduate of the Sorbonne and Harvard, Ph.D., Professor of French Literature, Fellow of the Gender Institute at Stanford University. In 1991, the French government honored her with the Order of Les Palmes Academiques. She gives popular lectures on women’s history and self-awareness of women, and has written 7 books, two of which caused a particularly strong response: «The History of the Breast» and «The History of the Wife.» The first finally reached Russian readers.
