Waffle Heart is the first book by Norwegian writer Maria Parr, who has been hailed by critics as the new Astrid Lindgren. Nine-year-old Trille tells us about his life on a farm with three houses, and most of all about his neighbor and best friend Lena Lid. Lena has two black pigtails, green eyes and eight freckles on her nose; with Lena all the time something happens, and you will not get bored with her. During the year that we live with the guys, they manage to arrange a lot of incredible tricks. But later, Trille and Lena face circumstances that are not at all funny — from the death of a loved one to moving and separation. Yet childhood friendships stand the test of time, and the adults in this book are surprisingly understanding. The story has already been published in Sweden, France, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands, where it received the Silver Slate Award.
