All Polish children will be vaccinated against pneumococci. Free, obligatory and from next year. – It’s a revolution. So far, we spent PLN 160 million on all vaccinations, and now we will spend an additional PLN 170 million – says Jarosław Pinkas, Deputy Minister of Health, who approved the new vaccination program.
The parliamentary team for children, members of the parliamentary and senate health committees debated yesterday at the University Teaching Hospital in Wrocław. Jarosław Pinkas spoke about the plans of the Ministry of Health regarding paediatrics. Among them, the implementation of compulsory pneumococcal vaccination from next year is of key importance.
«It makes me proud because we have just achieved one very spectacular success in Polish paediatrics. We will spend an additional PLN 170 million to ensure that all children in Poland are vaccinated against pneumococci. This completely changes the reality of Polish children »- said the deputy minister. He also noted that although there is a problem with educating new paediatricians, each district hospital must have a pediatric ward with qualified staff. That is why the ministry planned as many as 1902 residencies for candidates for pediatricians next year.
«We are working on solutions that will completely change postgraduate education. The point is that all specializations, especially those in paediatrics, could be acquired in a rational, well-structured way, with good access to accreditation centers, of which there should be more ”- said the deputy minister.
He announced the reduction of the number of medical specializations in Poland and their adaptation to world standards. “I know that what I am going to say will be very controversial, but we will definitely move away from the 94 medical specializations we now have in Poland. This situation has gone too far. Of course, skills will remain and we will not take away any acquired rights. Certainly, however, it will not be possible to do as many as 94 specializations in Poland, only the essential ones. We will not hurt doctors and, above all, patients. One day you have to start talking about holistic medicine, as it is all over the world now »- said Pinkas.
The deputy minister of health informed that the National Health Program supervised by him in the ministry would be discussed by the government within 10 days.
“This is PLN 70 million for educational and preventive programs, which will completely change the Polish reality when it comes to health promotion. And it will actually be possible to say that public health has functioned in Poland and this is not an empty slogan, ”said Pinkas.
He emphasized that one of the goals “is to increase the fertility rate in Poland – to create a fashion for children”.
The deputy head of the ministry announced that it was planned to develop a national procreation program that would coordinate the work of specialists in this field.
«It’s about coordinating help from a psychologist to a geneticist through a gynecologist. So far, such aid has been dispersed. Now it will also be dedicated to the couple, not the woman herself. The establishment of the first such center will take place on December 6 at the Polish Mother’s Health Center »- said Pinkas.
He added that there will also be “an act on school medicine that will be correlated with primary health care.
«The point is not that there is a doctor in every school, but that the students have access to screening tests, for example for eyesight. Prevention, education and health promotion will be carried out »- announced the Deputy Minister of Health.
