Malfunctions of Zanussi dishwashers: do-it-yourself repair

Why does the Zanussi dishwasher break? After diagnosing, you can find the cause and fix the breakdown with your own hands.

The history of technology began in Italy. But today, household appliances under the Zanussi brand are made in China. The build quality leaves much to be desired, although the equipment is equipped with new technologies, functions, programs. Therefore, malfunctions in the Zanussi dishwasher are not rare.

Zanussi PMM error codes are collected and described in detail in a separate article.

Causes of breakdowns of the Zanussi dishwasher

One of the common causes of failure of the Zanussi PMM is a leak. Sometimes the self-diagnosis system displays an error code on the display – I30. If you find a puddle of water under the dishwasher, you need to check:

  • machine tank;
  • connections of all hoses;
  • integrity of the inlet hose;
  • fill valve failure.

There are also such breakdowns:

  1. Burning fuses and electronics. The equipment is sensitive to power surges. Therefore, if the machine does not work, check the fuses on the control board. Also, the reason may be in violation of the insulation of the wire that is connected to the network.
  2. The machine fills with water, but the wash cycle does not start. There may be several reasons for this. The simplest problem is a clogged filter or a poorly closed door. A more complex problem with the circulation pump, the electronic board.
  3. The dishwasher does not draw water – a problem with the filling system. The intake hose, filter, inlet valve are checked. Perhaps it’s a blockage, or some part is broken.
  4. Water does not drain. This is not uncommon, especially when several years have passed since the purchase of the car – it may be a clogged drain. Repair will be required if the drain pump is out of order.
  5. Have you noticed that the machine does not heat the water? Then you need to check the wiring from the module to the heater, heating element, temperature sensor, electronic module.
  6. Problems with drying, if such a function is in the model. If the dishwasher does not dry the dishes at all, it is the fan that supplies air to the chamber. If, after checking, the fan turned out to be working, the reason is in the drying heater. The broken part needs to be replaced.

With a little understanding of the dishwasher, you can start troubleshooting.

How to repair a dishwasher with your own hands

It is not in vain that the instruction manual indicates how to properly use the Zanussi dishwasher. Compliance with the rules allows you to extend the life of equipment. But not only violations by the user become the causes of breakdowns. Delicate electronics often suffer from “inconstancy” on the network.

The machine does not turn on

You press the start button, but there is no reaction. The indicators do not light up, the sink does not start. How to turn on the machine? First check:

  • Network cord. If its insulation is damaged or it is bent, a replacement is needed.
  • Fuses on the control board. They could be damaged by a power surge. You can replace the fuses with your own hands, the main thing is to select the parts exactly with the previous ones.
  • If the dishwasher is getting power but won’t turn on, check the start button. Maybe her contacts were broken or burned out.

It is recommended to install machines on such equipment that will protect the machine from power surges.

There is a leak

If the integrity of the inlet hose is broken, it must be replaced. Disconnect one end of the hose from the sewer, the other from the machine body. Shut off the water supply first. Replace the damaged hose with a new one.

Check fill valve. When a valve breaks, its diaphragm does not close. This results in a constant flow of water, overflow and leakage. In case of malfunction, the valve is replaced.

How to check the electrical part of the inlet valve:

  • Disconnect the wiring from the valve.
  • Attach the ohmmeter probes to the workpiece contacts.
  • The valve is healthy if the readings are 500-1500 ohms.
  • If there is no indication, then the coil is open and the part needs to be changed.

You can check whether the valve membrane is really not closing by opening the machine during water intake. If water continues to collect when the door is open, then the valve mechanics are faulty.

Water does not drain

Check the filter and drain pump for clogging. The pump may have jammed due to broken dishes, so clean it with gloves.

  1. Disconnect the machine from the power, turn off the water supply.
  2. Open the hopper and take out the dish trays.
  3. There is a filter at the bottom of the dishwasher.
  4. Pull it out and the metal mesh underneath.
  5. Rinse the parts under running water. Clean especially dirty places with a brush.
  6. There may be water in the pump opening. Remove it with a sponge.
  7. Press the pump cover, pull up and remove.
  8. Clean the impeller from dirt.

The blockage is cleared, but the machine still does not drain water well? Then check the pump for serviceability. To inspect and replace your pump, follow these guidelines:

  • Provide access to the bottom of the machine.
  • Please note that the drain pump is attached to the circulation pump.
  • Loosen the screw securing the pump.
  • Turn it clockwise and disconnect from the engine.
  • Disconnect the wiring and drain hose from the pump.

Install the new part in reverse order.

Water heating problems

If the heating element and its wiring fail, the water will not heat up, and there is also a risk of fire. Therefore, at the first sign, check and replace:

  • Remove the lower cover of the front panel.
  • Disconnect the wiring from the heater, release the disposable clamps.
  • Pull the heating element out of the case.

You only need to install the heater that is suitable for your model and brand of machine.

Control module failure

If the machine does not respond to your actions, the indicators flash randomly – the reason is in the electronic module. Try resetting and restarting your Zanussi dishwasher first. How to reset settings:

  • unplug the machine;
  • wait 15-20 minutes;
  • connect the dishwasher, check its operation.

Machine did not boot properly? Then you need to diagnose and repair the board or flash the module.

This is a complex and costly business. Therefore, think about whether it is worth deciding on such a repair.

Once you figure out the problem, you can fix it yourself. For example, getting rid of blockage in the system is quite within your power. Take care of your equipment, then breakdowns will bypass the Zanussi PMM.
