The high build quality of Miele washing machines allows the manufacturer to give a 20-year warranty. But this does not mean that the washers never break.
There are breakdowns that the user can fix with their own hands. If you are interested in how to repair a Miele washing machine yourself, read this article.
Causes of malfunctions of the Miele CMA
Miele washing machine components are produced only at the company’s factories, so there is no doubt about their quality and originality. Then why do washers fail?
The causes of the malfunction are improper operation, unstable voltage in the network, during sudden surges of which a short circuit of the electronic components of the CM occurs.
One of the main reasons is hard water with impurities, which affects the heating element. The heater is overgrown with scale, as a result of which it can not only break itself, but also disable the control module.
In order for you to better understand the causes of Miele SMA breakdowns, consider a table that shows the fault codes and their meaning.
Miele CM error codes
Self-diagnosis of washing machines allows you to quickly calculate the breakdown and try to fix it. When the system finds a fault, error codes are displayed on the display of Miele Revolution washing machines and other models.
Error code | What it means |
F01 | The drying thermistor is defective. |
F02, F03, F04 | Problems with the drying temperature sensor. |
F10 | There was a problem while filling water. |
F11 | There were problems with draining water. |
F15 | High temperature water intake. |
F16 | Too much foam. |
F19 | Water sensor malfunction. |

Mile machine drain pump not working
How can the user understand that the CM pump is defective? Waste water will not drain from the tank.
This may indicate not only a problem with the pump, but also its blockage – the drain pipe and filter could also be clogged. Consider the possibility of self-repair of Miele washing machines.
Start checking elements in order:
- Disconnect the SM from the network, shut off the water supply.
- Open the hatch on the front panel below.
- Unscrew the drain filter located behind it.
- Clean it of debris.
- Reinstall the filter.
To get to the drain pipe and pump in the Millet washing machine, you will have to remove the front panel. You can do the repair yourself:
- Remove the top cover of the washer by unscrewing the two screws on the back.
- Remove the detergent tray, unscrew the bolts behind it.
- Remove the bottom panel, having previously drained the remaining water from the filter.
- After opening the door, remove the metal collar of the cuff of the hatch.
- Disconnect the interlock connectors.
- Loosen the rest of the screws securing the case and remove it.
- Substitute the water container before removing the nozzle.
- Loosen the pipe clamps, unclench the pump harnesses.
- Unscrew the fixing bolts, remove the pump with the nozzle.
Inspect the parts and clean them under running water. How to repair a pump in the event of a breakdown, see the video:
Miele washing machine pressure switch faulty
This sensor is responsible for monitoring the water level in the tank. When it fails, the washer may give a water intake error, an “Empty tank” or “Water overflow” signal.
Unfortunately, the sensor cannot be repaired. But it is easy to replace it with a new device.
- Having removed the top panel of the SM, you will notice a pressure switch near the side wall.
- Disconnect the hose from the sensor and check it for blockage.
- Remove the pressure switch and disconnect all wires from it.
- Installation of a new part is carried out in the reverse order.
No water heating in Miele car
If washing takes place in cold water, and the laundry is washed poorly, the cause is a malfunction of the heating element. The heater is also replaced through the front panel (we already wrote how to remove it).
Next:
- Below, under the tank, you will notice the protruding outlets of the heating element.
- It is necessary to open all the clamps and disconnect the wires.
- Loosen the center nut and push the bolt inward.
- Pry off the edges of the heater with a screwdriver and remove it from the machine.
- Install a working heating element for the Miele washing machine.
Drum does not rotate
Do you start the washer, but the drum does not rotate, or did the program stop in the middle of the cycle? This indicates wear on the drive belt, which transmits engine speed by rotating the drum.
Sometimes the belt falls off the pulley of a Miele top-loading washing machine. In any case, you need to inspect and, if necessary, install a new belt.
- Remove the left body panel.
- Check the drive belt.
- If it is slipped or damaged, install a new element.
- First put the belt on the motor pulley.
- Then, turning, on the drum pulley.
- Reinstall the panel.
Incorrect operation of the electric motor
If you notice that the drum during washing dramatically changes the speed and direction of movement, the reason lies in the tachogenerator of the motor. This part is responsible for the engine speed, allowing you to adjust them for individual programs.
Checking the tachogenerator in the Mile washing machine:
- The tachometer is located on the motor shaft.
- Attach the multimeter probes to the sensor contacts, measure the resistance.
- The normal value is 70 ohms (±20 ohms).
In the event of a malfunction, the sensor cannot be repaired, it can be replaced with your own hands.
Electronics faults
It is better not to try to fix problems with electronics yourself. This will require not only the electronic circuit of Miele washing machines, but also the skills of such a repair.
The components of the module are manufactured using modern technologies, so even to check it, you will need to connect to a computer. We recommend contacting a service center for assistance.
Once you’ve figured out the problems with Miele washing machines, you can try to repair them yourself. If the car is still under warranty, it is wiser to contact specialists.
Do not forget to follow safety precautions during work.
