Men who for decades hesitated to bare their masculine torso due to too large breasts, as well as very young guys, attack plastic surgeons’ receptions, begging them to get rid of a delicate problem.
According to the latest figures announced at the British Association for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (BAEP) conference in Cardiff, the number of male breast reduction surgeries in the UK has become 1000% more popular in the last five years. Since this organization covers only a third of the total plastic surgery market in the country, it can be assumed that the actual number of spicy surgeries is much higher.
According to the BAEPH, in 2003 only 22 men applied to surgeons for such an operation, and in 2008 the number of applications increased to 323. Thus, if previously one operation was performed every two weeks, now it is almost every day of the year. and even teenage boys resort to it. The leaders, however, are aged men who have been ashamed of their bodies all their lives. Most likely, experts say, such a high demand is caused by a more open approach to the problem and the availability of information on the Internet.
“I have patients who are in their 50s and 60s who have never exposed their torso in public,” said one of the surgeons, Dr. Douglas McGeorge. However, young people also come to the operation. In their case, the government can pay for the operation if they meet certain criteria. “If a man is given female hormones, his breasts will grow. During puberty, there is a mixture of hormones in the body, and some young people may develop breasts that are not in harmony with the rest of the body, ”explained Dr. McGeorge. The cost and scale of the operation depends on many factors. In some cases, only liposuction and breast reshaping are used. In other cases, tissue has to be removed to achieve the same result.
