Maglek B6 – indications, dosage, contraindications, side effects

Maglek B6 is used in the prevention of complications related to the deficiency of magnesium and vitamin. B6 in people who, for various reasons, receive an insufficient amount of magnesium in the diet, who use a diet rich in saturated fatty acids for a long time, suffer from acute or chronic pancreatitis, chronic liver diseases, with prolonged and persistent diarrhea and overuse of laxatives . The preparation is in the form of over-the-counter tablets.

Maglek B6 – indications and dosage

Maglek B6 is a drug recommended:

  1. in the prevention of complications related to the deficiency of magnesium and vitamin. B6 in people who, for various reasons, receive an insufficient amount of magnesium in the diet in relation to their needs,
  2. in long-term diet rich in saturated fatty acids,
  3. in patients with acute or chronic pancreatitis,
  4. for chronic liver diseases,
  5. in patients with long-term and persistent diarrhea and overuse of laxatives,
  6. in people taking diuretics,
  7. in conditions with increased muscle excitability and a tendency to tetany attacks,
  8. in people after long-term immobilization and in convalescence after bone fractures,
  9. in people with impaired reabsorption of magnesium from the renal tubules,
  10. in the prevention of certain heart diseases, especially coronary artery disease, heart attack and arrhythmias.

Drug dosage

Maglek B6 is in the form of tablets to be taken orally. The preparation should be administered before or after a meal and should not be used on an empty stomach. In other indications, the preparation is used as needed.

Adults and children after 12 years of age prophylactically 1–2 tablets / d.

Maglek B6 and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Maglek B6 are:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
  2. hypermagnesaemia of various etiologies,
  3. atrioventricular block,
  4. kidney failure (severe)
  5. arterial hypotension,
  6. taking levodopa without a peripheral L-DOPA decarboxylase inhibitor,
  7. myasthenia gravis,
  8. should not be used during diarrhea.

Maglek B6 – warnings

  1. In the case of renal dysfunction, consult a doctor who will decide whether to modify the dosage of Maglek B6.
  2. Taking this medicine on an empty stomach may cause diarrhea.
  3. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may take Maglek B6 only after consulting a doctor and if absolutely necessary.

Maglek B6 and other substances

  1. Absorption of magnesium is reduced by phosphates, calcium and fluorine compounds.
  2. Magnesium excretion in urine is enhanced by diuretics, cisplatin, cycloserine, and mineralocorticosteroids.
  3. Do not take Maglek B6 with levodopa (without a peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor) because vitamin B6 contained in the preparation reduces its effectiveness in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
  4. Muscle paralysis may occur when taking aminoglycosides, muscle relaxants and colistin at the same time.
  5. Magnesium causes a reduced absorption of the anticoagulants of the warfarin group, the tetracyclines. It is recommended to leave at least 3 hours between taking oral tetracycline and magnesium.
  6. The absorption of magnesium is reduced by alcohol and tobacco.
  7. Bisphosphonates (alendronate, etidronate) should be taken at least 2 hours after or before magnesium.
  8. Magnesium may reduce the effectiveness of chlorpromazine and quinolones, and affect the action of digoxin, nitrofurantoin and some anti-malarial drugs.
  9. Vitamin B6 contained in the preparation may reduce the concentration of phenytoin in the blood.
  10. Cycloserine, hydralazine, isoniazid, penicillamine and oral contraceptives may increase the need for vitamin B6.

Maglek B6 – side effects

While taking Maglek B6, the following may occur:

  1. diarrhea,
  2. stomach pain,
  3. reddening of the skin,
  4. Long-term use of pyridoxine (vitamin B6) in a dose of 50 mg / day may cause peripheral sensory neuropathy, while doses above 200 mg / day may lead to folic acid deficiency, respiratory disorders and various types of dermatoses.
