Madling – cocktail making technique

Madling or pounding (from English muddling) – a process carried out in a thick-bottomed glass using a bar pestle – muddler. The technique is used for crushing and grinding sugar, spices, leaves and herbs, as well as for squeezing juice from fruits, berries and vegetables.

Madling allows you to release the “freshness” of fruits and vegetables, turn the aroma of herbs into an exquisite cocktail zest. However, it is worth overdoing it a little, and the cocktail can be spoiled. Therefore, working as a muddler, you must have experienced skill and a sense of proportion.

Muddler can be made from: wood, bamboo, stone, and metal.
