Madler

Madler, or “masher”, is used to grind berries, fruits, sugar, and obtain essential oils from various herbs.

When preparing a cocktail, all the necessary ingredients are muddled directly in the glass, but sometimes a mortar is also used. Today there are two types of muddler: wooden and plastic. The size of a standard muddler is 19 cm (7,5 inches). Mojitos and Caipirinhas are some of the most popular muddled cocktails.

Instead of muddling, some bartenders use a bar spoon with a small muddler on the other end, which also helps save time when working.
