Rumors are rumors, but Apple did not dare to increase the screen in the younger MacBook Pro to 14 inches. Apparently, the big changes that the “tag” has already undergone, which turned into the MacBook Pro 16, will be implemented in the future. In the meantime, we have what we have – a minor update, which is unlikely to be of interest to those who have, say, a 13 MacBook Pro 2019 in their hands.
MacBook Pro 13 (2020) review
Price and release date in Our Country MacBook Pro 13 (2020)
It’s even pointless to mention the “quiet” format for presenting new Apple products now – the company began to present its devices this way long before the pandemic. The MacBook Pro 13 (2020) appeared on the company’s website on May 4th. In the States, pre-orders started almost immediately, and sales of the laptop will begin in the first half of May. The laptop appeared on the Apple website, but above it there is a “will be on sale later” sign. That is, the start date of sales in our country has not yet been determined.
But the prices are already known. Of course, Apple couldn’t help but raise the price of its product. The basic version of the MacBook Pro 13 (2020) for our market with the eighth generation i5, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of permanent memory will cost 119,9 thousand rubles. For a 512 GB drive with exactly the same configuration, they will already ask for 139,9 thousand rubles. A laptop with four Thunderbolt 3 ports, a tenth-generation i5 processor, 16/512 GB already costs 173,9 thousand rubles. And the maximum (so far) version of the “trinashki” with a terabyte SSD already costs like an airplane wing – 193,9 thousand rubles. But if this doesn’t shock you, then in the US a version with Core i7 Ice Lake, 32 GB of RAM and a 4 TB SSD is available at a price of $ 3600 (270,7 thousand rubles).

Screen
The laptop display remains the same as in the previous generation. This is an IPS-matrix Retina with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels, covered with glass. The screen brightness is a solid 500 cd / sq.m, there is support for True Tone technology and a wide P3 color gamut.
Case and keyboard
As you might guess, the linear dimensions and weight of the case remained unchanged – 304.1 x 212.4 x 15,6 mm at 1,4 kg. The latter figure is no longer a record – in the world of Windows there are “trinashki” weighing less than a kilo, and laptops with a diagonal of 1,4 inches fit into the same 14 kg. Of course, the case of the MacBook Pro 13 (2020) is made of aluminum, and the user is unlikely to be able to disassemble it without damaging the device.
Of course, the biggest new addition to the 13 MacBook Pro 2020 is the keyboard. The Magic Keyboard with the “old-new” scissor mechanism has already been tested by Air and MacBook Pro 16 buyers. The rejection of the extremely unfortunate “butterfly”, which thoroughly tarnished Apple’s reputation, clearly benefited laptops from this company. Together with the 65-key Magic Keyboard, the Touch Bar and Touch ID work in the laptop. One of the best trackpads on the market, the glass Force Touch, also remained in place.
Processor, memory, communications
Everything is not easy with the processor configurations of the new “trinashki”. Notebooks with two Thunderbolt 3 ports can only be equipped with eighth generation Core i5 chips, or, optionally, i7 of the same 8th Gen. The new 10nm Ice Lake CPUs from Intel have gone to the much more expensive quad-port MacBook Pro 13. These are quad-core i5 or i7 processors.
The same “segregation” is associated with RAM. The younger version received in the “base” 8 GB of RAM, made on a slow LPDDR3 2133 MHz. Laptops on new processors have from 16 GB of LPDDR4X 3733 MHz RAM.
Finally, Apple in the basic version of the MacBook Pro 13 became generous with a 256 GB solid-state drive. However, the pricing of the internal volume is such that for 512 GB you will have to pay 20 thousand rubles, so if you want to save money, buy external SSDs. In total, the “trinashka” can have up to 4 TB of internal memory. In addition to the already named 5G, which will only work where it is launched, the smartphone supports almost all the necessary interfaces: Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB-C.
As mentioned above, there are two laptop configurations that differ in the number of Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports – two and four, respectively. Of course, each of them can be used to charge or connect an external video card. What pleases, the 3,5 mm audio jack remained in place. Of the wireless interfaces, the MacBook Pro 13 (2020) has dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.
Autonomy
The battery has not changed in the new generation of MacBook Pro 13. These are the same lithium-polymer batteries with a total capacity of 58 (58,2 in a four-port configuration) Wh. The manufacturer claims that the laptop will last 10 hours on a single charge when browsing the web or watching streaming video. A 61-watt power supply is responsible for charging.
