Macadamia oil for hair: how to use it

Unique in composition and properties, this precious oil can solve almost any problem with hair. Light, fragrant, noble – meet macadamia hair oil.

Benefits of macadamia oil for hair

Macadamia oil, useful for hair (and not only), is extracted from the nut of the tree of the same name. This is quite an expensive and valuable product. Macadamia trees today are grown mainly on plantations in Hawaii, they grow slowly, bear fruit only seven years after planting, and the harvest is not very abundant. It’s a pity, because macadamia oil is a unique ingredient, different from other nut and stone oils.

The composition of macadamia oil is close to animal fats.

Macadamia oil contains an extremely high percentage of palmitic fatty acid, which is present in human skin sebum, but its amount decreases with age. In addition, the oil has a high concentration of unsaturated fatty acids: oleic (55%) and palmitoleic (22%).

Macadamia oil also contains:

  • tocopherols;

  • vitamins of group B, E, A;

  • trace elements useful for hair – magnesium, selenium, copper, zinc, iron;

  • proteins;

  • niacin.

The benefits of macadamia oil for hair are undeniable, it:

  • nourishes and softens the scalp;

  • disciplines strands;

  • strengthens the roots;

  • restores the structure of the hair, gives them density, elasticity, shine.

Thanks to these properties, macadamia oil is included in cosmetics for dry, damaged, brittle, dull, as well as curly and porous hair.

Ways to use pure macadamia oil

The use of macadamia oil for hair is possible in its pure form, it is universal and suitable for brunettes and blondes, regardless of the type and quality of hair – thick, thin, curly, straight, dyed, bleached or gray. The oil is light, quickly absorbed and visibly improves the appearance of the hair. In addition, it has a delicate nutty aroma, a beautiful amber color, so using this precious product is not only healthy, but also pleasant.

Massage

To massage the scalp, you need to warm up 2-3 drops of macadamia oil in your fingers and rub it into the skin in a circular motion from the hairline to the crown, and from the crown to the back of the head. Such a massage stimulates blood circulation, promotes hair growth, and also has a general relaxing effect.

Combing

It can also be turned into a massage. Apply a couple of drops of macadamia oil to a comb, brush or comb and comb your hair from root to tip on all surfaces of the head – the strands will be stimulated to grow, as well as a dose of nutrients, they will become smooth and shiny.

Rinsing

Macadamia oil can be enriched with any conditioner by adding a drop just before applying the product. Another option is to rinse your hair in the final wash with “oily water” (1 teaspoon of oil per liter of water).

Adding to shampoo

If you add macadamia oil to your shampoo, its nourishing and softening properties will increase. One drop per serving is enough.

Oil wrap

The easiest and most effective way to use macadamia oil for hair is to warm it up a little, apply it to the scalp and hair, wrap it in a towel or cap and leave it on all night. In the morning, wash your hair as usual.

Leave-in care

To keep hair soft, manageable and tangle-free, you can apply a few drops of macadamia oil to clean, wet hair along the entire length, stepping back from the roots. Run through your hair from top to bottom, placing the strands between your palms. The cuticle will be smoothed, the oil will seal in moisture, the hair will become like silk.

For hair ends

Little macadamia is great for hair ends. To prevent breakage and splitting, rub a couple of drops between your fingers and apply to damp or dry hair.

It is not necessary to use macadamia oil as a heat protectant during curling as it has a low burning temperature of 199°C. Apply it after styling.

Macadamia oil hair masks

How else can macadamia oil be used for hair? Of course, as part of homemade masks! According to our expert, trichologist Maria Nevskaya, “it is best to mix macadamia oil with other oils and components in a ratio of 1:1:1.”

Before adding oil, it must be heated to a warm (never hot) temperature.

Against hair loss

Amla oil or black cumin oil is excellent at fighting hair loss – mix one of them with macadamia oil and avocado oil in equal proportions, add a drop of rosemary essential oil, oil the scalp well, warm and do not rinse for at least a couple of hours.

For hair growth

Mix two tablespoons each of macadamia oil, sesame oil and aloe juice. Apply the mixture to the scalp and hair before washing. Leave for 30 minutes, preferably an hour. This mask promotes the growth of strong hair, and also gives the strands shine, softness and density.

For shine hair

For this mask you will need:

  • macadamia oil;

  • avocado fruit;

  • any oil of your choice – coconut, jojoba, olive.

Puree avocado, add oils in equal amounts and apply to clean, damp hair for 30-40 minutes. Rinse off and enjoy luxuriously shiny hair.

From split ends

To combat split ends, you need to combine three oils in equal proportions:

  1. macadamia;

  2. jojoba;

  3. avocado.

These are the lightest oils that will not create the effect of greasy strands and will not weigh down the hair. Unlike the vast majority of homemade masks, this one can be prepared ahead of time and used as a nourishment for the ends of your hair: apply it before washing, after washing, on dry hair for protection, or damp hair to seal in moisture. Experiments are welcome. You only need a few drops.

And the possibility of long-term storage is due to the fact that there are no perishable products in the composition, these are just vegetable oils.

For damaged hair

Damaged dry hair will not interfere with such a mixture:

  1. macadamia oil;

  2. Coconut oil;

  3. honey.

Mix the ingredients in equal proportions, distribute over the entire length of the hair (can also be applied to the scalp). But note that honey is a common allergen. Before use, you need to make sure that you do not have an undesirable reaction to it or other components of the mask. Leave under a cap with insulation for 2 hours.
