Macadamia oil

This is a hit among cosmetic ingredients for facial skin and hair care, which have become known and available to us relatively recently. Although the Australian Aborigines, according to history, appreciated the benefits of this nut 5000 years ago.

What is macadamia nut?

The evergreen macadamia tree is native to northern Australia. The trees got their current name only in 1857 thanks to the German botanist Ferdinand Müller, who christened them so in honor of the famous Australian chemist and politician John McAdam. Now trees grow not only in Australia. At the beginning of the last century, macadamia began to be grown in Hawaii, and today it is here that the most nuts are harvested.

Macadamia nut, or rather, its oil, is a rather expensive ingredient. The fact is that trees grow slowly and the first fruits appear on them only after seven years, and the harvest from a fruit-bearing tree is not very large. The shape of the macadamia nut resembles a hazelnut, and the taste and nutritional properties are similar to cashews. In cosmetology, macadamia nut serves as a raw material for the production of oil, which is referred to as Macadamia Oil or, for example, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil on cream labels.

Features of composition

The fruits of the macadamia tree, or rather their oil, are actively used in cosmetology.

In cosmetology, macadamia oil is valued for its ability to care for facial skin and hair. The nut owes its useful properties to a large amount of acids in the composition. Judge for yourself.

  • Palmitoleic acid (up to 22%).

  • Oleic acid (55%).

  • Linoleic acid (1%).

  • Fatty acids (up to 20%).

Macadamia oil also contains vitamins:

  • vitamin E;

  • vitamin C;

  • niacin, which has a beneficial effect on microcirculation in the skin.

The relatively low content of these vitamins only indicates that macadamia oil products are more regenerating products than vitamin and antioxidant ones.

And, of course, macadamia oil contains minerals such as:

  • copper;

  • zinc;

  • iron.

All of them contribute to facilitating the processes of regeneration and restoration of the skin.

The composition of macadamia oil also contains proteins (almost 10%), which helps to restore collagen and elastin, the structural proteins of the skin.

The health benefits of macadamia oil

In general, macadamia oil can be called a winter product, as it perfectly saves the skin from wind, frost and other natural vagaries. But even after a summer vacation, walnut oil will not be superfluous in your cosmetic bag – you can’t think of a better remedy for restoring sun-dried skin.

For facial skin

Creams and balms with macadamia oil are used to care for aging skin of the face, neck and décolleté, as well as in products for the skin around the eyes.

In addition, macadamia oil has a beneficial effect on the skin after aggressive cosmetic procedures. Largely due to the high content of palmitoleic acid, which is often called omega-7 acid. This fatty acid is produced in small amounts by the sebaceous glands of the skin. Unfortunately, with age, its synthesis slows down, and the sebum becomes soft, losing the ability to retain moisture on the surface of the skin. This is one of the causes of dry and sensitive skin that comes with age. Macadamia oil compensates for this deficiency by restoring the skin quite quickly.

Cosmetologists recommend using macadamia oil to restore skin after damage from ultraviolet rays.

For body

In body products, macadamia oil is used after sunburn, as well as to restore lost elasticity. Due to the high content of saturated fatty acids, macadamia oil products are distinguished by their unusual density and rich texture. No wonder it is the favorite product of massage therapists.

For hair

Recently, manufacturers have begun to introduce valuable macadamia oil into the composition of hair care products. After using a shampoo, balm or mask with macadamia oil, the hair becomes more shiny and manageable. It smooths out the difference between the root part of the hair and the ends, making the hair more elastic and dense along the entire length.

Safety measures

In general, nuts are an allergenic product, but it is macadamia oil that rarely causes an allergic reaction, although, of course, no one can guarantee its absence 100%. That is why it is worth conducting a small test before the first use.

  1. Apply some macadamia oil on your wrist.

  2. See what the reaction will be.

  3. If everything is in order, you can safely use it to prolong youth and beauty.

Application in cosmetics and cosmetology

Hygienic lipsticks and lip balms with macadamia oil are a salvation for chapped and dry lips.

As we wrote above, macadamia oil is used in many cosmetic products, ranging from face and neck creams to shampoos and hair balms. Let us list once again the spheres of its influence.

  • Nourishing the skin of the face, neck, décolleté and eye area.

  • Recovery after sunburn and cosmetic procedures.

  • Body care.

  • Stretch marks prevention.

  • Hair care.
