Popular blogger, author of several books, including the parenting bestseller What to Do If… about the vast and abundant world we live in. Where there is enough for everyone.
“I heard this phrase many years ago from my economist friend. Then he explained: in a zero-sum game, how much one won, the other lost so much. And in life you can come up with so that everyone wins. And most often it happens: one has provided a service, the other has received — both benefit. In addition to some extreme situations (like one oxygen tank for two in a submarine), you can always “enlarge the pie”, and if it seems that you can’t, then you just didn’t think well. We need to think more.
Sometimes it seems to me that this is one of those thoughts that was forced out, knocked out of the minds of many of my compatriots by a hard life. Precisely because many do not see this property of life, they push so hard at the entrance to the subway car, communicate angrily in social networks, rejoice at other people’s troubles, think about some kind of mythical struggle with America. This is a model of the world, worn out during the years of deprivation, in which «there is not enough for everyone.» In which you will have only what you tear out of life with your teeth.
I want to say: relax, my dear. The world is vast and bountiful, it has a lot of things for everyone, and there are a thousand ways to make it even more bountiful. If you think about the interests of others, someone will think about yours. If you share ideas and money, new ones will come to you. If you are willing to help, they will help you. That’s how it is in my life.»
