Lupine: autumn planting in the ground and care
Lupine is a beautiful flower native to America. It can be grown in Russia in regions with any climatic conditions. Planting lupine and caring for it is not difficult.
In order to see the beautiful flowering of lupine in summer, you need to sow its seeds at the end of October.
Planting lupine and caring for it is within the power of even a novice florist
It is best to use seed harvested from flowers. Sowing is carried out as follows:
- Find a suitable location on the site. The plant can be grown both in the sun and in the shade. But it gives the most lush flowering in a sunny place with diffused lighting.
- Prepare the soil. Loosen it 25 cm and add mineral fertilizers. Dig up the earth by adding sand and clay to it. For normal growth, the plant needs a slightly acidic or alkaline loamy soil. If the soil is acidic, then add lime flour, and pour the alkaline one with an acidic solution or add peat.
- Make planting grooves 2 cm deep, about 15 cm apart.
- Place the prepared seeds in the grooves. It is advisable to soak them in the foundation before planting.
- Cover the seeds with a small layer of dry peat, earth and water well.
- Mulch the top layer of the earth with peat.
Lupine can be planted in the ground in spring or autumn. In autumn, the seeds will not have time to germinate before the onset of cold weather and will develop in the soil. In springtime, flower shoots will appear, and at the end of summer you can watch its flowering.
Lupine care after planting
As the flower grows, you need to properly care for it, observing simple rules.
Water the flower in moderation when the top layer of the earth dries up, keep in mind that the plant requires abundant watering in the spring. In the first year after planting, loosen the soil and remove weeds. Since over time, the root collar is exposed at the flower, it is periodically necessary to spud the bush. For tall inflorescences, you need to make a support so that the branches of the flower do not break off from the wind.
In the spring, in the second year after planting, start fertilizing the soil annually. Use mineral fertilizers as a top dressing, add superphosphate and calcium chloride
For longer flowering, prune damaged and dried flowers. This will preserve the beauty of the plant until late autumn. Use specific pest and disease control products.
These simple rules will make it easy to grow a beautiful, flowering shrub on the site.
