Various factors can cause high or low blood pressure in pregnancy. It may persist for a long time, but it may also be just a single episode. How is low blood pressure manifested in pregnancy, and above all, what may be the causes of abnormal blood pressure results?

Low pressure in pregnancy – causes

Low blood pressure in pregnancy is most often caused by external factors, as it is rarely associated with, for example, cardiological disease of the pregnant woman. Low blood pressure during pregnancy may be the result of dehydration. Pregnancy is a condition that requires special care about how the pregnant woman eats and what drinks she takes. Especially in summer, you should drink as much fluid as possible to prevent dehydration. In hot weather, pregnant women, especially those in the last trimester, are exposed to increased sweating, which additionally causes the water to evaporate and leave the woman’s body. Gynecologists and nutritionists recommend drinking more still or slightly carbonated water, fresh fruit juices will work very well in hot weather. A good idea is also an infusion of herbs, for example chamomile, which also has a positive effect on the regulation of the digestive process.

Another reason why low blood pressure may appear during pregnancy is prolonged exercise, especially standing. In this situation, there may be inadequate blood flow to the brain, which may result in, for example, fainting.

Low pressure in pregnancy – symptoms

As for the symptoms, they can be varied and vary in severity. At low pressure, spots may appear in front of your eyes, even when lying down or sitting down. In pregnancy, low blood pressure may manifest itself as general weakness, and fatigue occurs that is not due to strenuous exercise. Other symptoms of too low blood pressure may include visual disturbance.

According to specialists, low blood pressure in pregnancy should not threaten the health or life of the child or pregnant woman. The issue of excessively high blood pressure, which may result in pre-eclampsia, is different. However, regardless of whether the lower pressure is less dangerous in the case of a pregnant woman, this fact should be reported to the attending physician. It happens that a prolonged low blood pressure in pregnancy may lead to hospitalization. If the cause is dehydration, it may be necessary to rehydrate the body through drips. In the case of arterial hypotension, it is recommended to sleep on the side, because then there is much better blood flow, and thus proper oxygenation of the whole body.

If too low pressure in pregnancy occurs suddenly, the woman should sit down if possible and wait until the pressure is moderate. A fall of a pregnant woman, which may lead to, for example, a blow to the head, may be a great risk of such an emergency. In autumn or winter, you should not wear too many layers of clothes, because then the body may overheat.
