Hemoglobin is a complex of protein and iron in the blood. It performs the most important function – it provides the body with oxygen. Hemostasiologist, leading specialist of the International Clinic of Hemostasis, Doctor of Medical Sciences Seda Baimuradova explains why it is important to control hemoglobin levels and take timely measures.

Norms of hemoglobin in the blood:

for women 18–65 years old – from 120 to 140 g / l,

for men 18–65 years old – from 130 to 150 g / l.

It often occurs due to a deficiency of iron or B vitamins. The main diagnosis is anemia, that is, anemia. At risk are young women, pregnant women, children, and the elderly. It is dangerous because it can develop along with serious diseases, which include inflammation, infections, tumors.

Weakness, constant fatigue, tinnitus, fainting, shortness of breath with little physical exertion. Insomnia. Violation of the menstrual cycle. Pale skin and cracks in the corners of the mouth. Decreased appetite and altered taste buds.

Improper diet or strict diet. If meat (the main source of heme iron) is completely excluded from the diet, hemoglobin will certainly decrease. Lack of physical activity. Chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract: colitis, gastritis, ulcer.

Balance your diet. The daily requirement for iron for adults is 10-20 mg, for children (depending on age) – 4-18 mg. Be sure to eat red meat (beef, pork, lamb), offal (liver, kidney, blood sausage), fish. Plant foods (legumes and grains, vegetables, fruits, herbs) and eggs also contain a lot of iron, but it is only partially absorbed. Take iron-containing drugs or B vitamins. But the doctor should prescribe the drugs after the necessary examination. The body replenishes iron stores for a long time – if this business is started, it may take from 3 to 6 months.

If your relatives have had thrombosis, heart attacks, strokes, you need to monitor the level of hemoglobin and do a blood test at least once every six months

Increases blood viscosity, its circulation slows down, the heart and internal organs receive less oxygen, which can lead to the development of heart attack, stroke, thrombosis. With particular attention, it is necessary to monitor the behavior of hemoglobin if there are problems with blood vessels or diabetes mellitus.

External manifestations of malaise may be absent. Severe fatigue, lethargy, loss of strength. Increased blood pressure. Skin redness or itching after water treatments. Headaches and dizziness.

Diseases of the lungs, heart, kidneys, blood vessels or excessive physical activity – many athletes have high hemoglobin. Also, bad habits and an unhealthy lifestyle affect your well-being.

If you suspect that hemoglobin is higher than normal, contact your doctor – therapist, hematologist or phlebologist. He must do a hemostasiogram and ultrasound of the vessels of the extremities. Only after carefully studying the properties of blood, the doctor can prescribe active drugs that thin the blood: anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents. Try to limit your diet to fried and fatty foods, soda, and sweets. Lead a healthy lifestyle.
