The life of 35-year-old Milia Simieli once changed very dramatically: she got married and left with her husband from her native Brazil to Australia. There she quite naturally found herself in a vacuum. After all, a new country is a different language, traditions, customs, laws, and everything else. And there are no friends. In order not to fall apart, Milia went to retraining courses to continue working as a midwife and doula, and also decided to remember her old hobby – sewing.
Then Milia did not even imagine that her hobby would soon come to the fore, turning into a source of income and inspiration. But she did not sew clothes, but dolls. And not simple ones, but maternity ones.
“Regular dolls don’t give a girl any idea of what motherhood looks like. Even if they are “pregnant” dolls or mother dolls. If only because they still look perfect, and the doll-mother always comes with bottles, which does not promote the idea of breastfeeding in any way, ”complains Milia.
She decided to create the most realistic dolls: with huge bellies, swollen fingers, swollen breasts. And in the belly of these rag mothers a baby is hiding: in the game he is “born”, almost like in life, he has an umbilical cord, and after the baby comes the afterbirth. Buttons are sewn to the doll’s mother’s chest and her arms, and so is the child’s mouth. It can be applied to the mother’s breast, then unfasten the umbilical cord with the placenta, and then put it on the mother’s chest, closing her arms with the help of buttons. In general, a process that mimics life as much as possible.
When Milia first showed such a doll on her Facebook page, her subscribers were delighted. Orders began to arrive almost immediately.
“It meant that what I was doing really needed people. It seems to me that using my dolls as an example, you can very easily explain to children where they came from, ”says Milia.
It takes three days to create one doll: the woman says that she is trying to make the perfect toy that will be absolutely unique. Over time, dolls have appeared that demonstrate not only vaginal delivery, but also childbirth by caesarean section, as well as the possibility of natural childbirth after surgery.
“I was asked to add the ability to ‘give birth’ to twins, a placenta bag for lotus birth, and I always go to meet the wishes,” says the midwife. – For mothers, this doll is a unique opportunity to remember their own birth. And children react very emotionally, they really like to help the “baby” to be born, to put it to the breast ”.
However, not everyone likes Milia’s dolls: some women consider them to be just creepy and not very realistic in reality.
“It seems to me that such dolls hurt children rather than actually prepare them for something,” said one of the visitors to Milia’s page.
