What influences our choice of partner? Including the social situation in the country, researchers from the University of York found out.
Evolutionary psychologists convince us that men unconsciously choose partners who seem to them the most suitable for procreation. And women are those who are able to feed offspring (that is, rich and status). Is it really all that unpretentious? After all, reproduction is far from our only goal when we enter into a relationship … Researchers from the University of York (Great Britain), having interviewed residents of 10 different countries, found a significant “correction”: the more a society does for gender equality, the less this evolutionary program affects of our choice*. In other words, if we feel like equal partners, we will be ready to look not for the youngest and not for the richest … but simply for someone who we like as a person.
