Lorazepam Orion is a prescription medicine that is given for the short-term treatment of anxiety disorders. The active substance of the drug is lorazepam, which belongs to the benzodiazepines. The preparation has a strong anxiolytic effect and may lead to addiction, therefore it is dispensed by a doctor only in certain situations, for immediate use in the lowest effective dose. What are the indications for taking Lorazepam Orion? How to dose the preparation and what are the side effects?
What is lorazepam?
Lorazepam is an active ingredient that belongs to benzodiazepine drugs (benzodiazepine derivatives). This group of drugs is classified as anxiolytic, but it also has a broader spectrum of action. In the case of lorazepam, we can distinguish anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative and muscle relaxing effects. Is it strong drug with restrictions on usetherefore it is available on prescription. Lorazepam is intended for adults, it is not given to children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
Lorazepam Orion is a preparation in the form of white or almost white tablets. They are uncoated – flat and round with a deep indentation on one side and a «1» symbol embossed on the other. Depending on the needs, it is possible to divide the tablet into two equal doses.
Lorazepam has properties similar to diazepam.
Lorazepam Orion – indications for use
Lorazepam Orion is a prescription drug that a doctor may prescribe to an adult for short-term treatment of acute anxiety attacks. This applies to the treatment of anxiety disorders, but also to the alleviation of symptoms such as anxiety and anxiety in depression.
In the treatment of anxiety, Lorazepam is not the drug of first choice. The indications for use may be severe diseases accompanied by debilitating anxiety, as well as the ineffectiveness of non-pharmacological anxiety therapy.
Before using Lorazepam Orion, contraindications to its use should be ruled out, and the precautions mentioned in the leaflet and mentioned by the doctor should be observed.
Lorazepam Orion – contraindications and precautions
Not all patients can use Lorazepam Orion. The main contraindications to the use of this medicinal product are:
- allergy to the active substance (lorazepam), drugs from the benzodiazepine group or any of the excipients of the preparation;
- severe liver failure;
- myasthenia;
- sleep apnea;
- lung disease with difficulty breathing.
In addition, a patient who is to be treated with Lorazepam due to anxiety symptoms should consult a doctor about his general health, especially with regard to liver or kidney disorders, respiratory disorders, epileptic seizures (also in the past), narrow-angle glaucoma, weakness, old age, or any current or past problems with excessive use of alcohol, drugs or medications.

Lorazepam may interact with other medicationsTherefore, you should discuss with your doctor the possibility of taking other medicinal substances, including CNS depressant drugs, antibiotics, antiepileptic drugs, drugs for asthma, hypertension, muscle relaxants or drugs used in addiction treatment.
Lorazepam Orion – composition
One tablet of Lorazepam Orion contains:
- active ingredient: 1 mg of lorazepam;
- excipients: 63,75 mg of lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and potassium polacrylin.

Lorazepam Orion – dosage
Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration of Lorazepam Orion treatment for you. Always take the preparation in accordance with these recommendations, do not modify the treatment yourself, and if in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist. According to the product leaflet, the recommended doses may be as follows:
- in anxiety states – an average of 2-3 mg of Lorezapam in several divided doses; it is also possible to adjust the dosage in the range from 1 mg to 7,5 mg per day, with the highest dose taken at bedtime;
- when you suffer from this insomnia caused by anxiety or situational stress – 1-2 mg once a day, it is advisable to take it at bedtime;
- for weakness or for the elderly – 1 mg daily in two divided doses.
Lek Lorazepam Orion may be addictive of a mental and physical nature. It must therefore be used under the supervision of a physician who will prescribe the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. The drug can be used for no more than 4 weeks. After this time, the need for further treatment should be assessed by a specialist – preferably the treatment should be carried out by the same doctor. The maximum time you can take Lorazepam Orion is 2-3 months.

Lorazepam and food, drink and alcohol
Lorazepam can be taken with or without food, and there is no contraindication for taking it with a meal. The tablets should be taken with the liquid. Do not combine this medication with alcohol as it can alter the effects of the medication in ways that are unpredictable.
Lorazepam Orion – side effects
When using Lorazepam Orion, it is especially important to pay attention to side effects that may indicate a serious allergic reaction, including the occurrence of: rash, itching, swelling of the throat, mouth, face or lips, difficulty breathing. This adverse reaction is dangerous for the patient and requires immediate medical attention.

There may also be other side effects of Lorazepam. Fatigue, drowsiness and sedation are very common, dizziness, depression, confusion, asthenia and muscle weakness are common. The other effects of the drug include headaches, vision problems, digestive system ailments, libido disorders, memory disorders, anaphylactic reactions, drop in blood pressure, as well as reactions such as convulsions, euphoria, aggression, hallucinations and others.
