Loratan pro is an antihistamine, taken to treat seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria. The active substance of the preparation is loratadine, which by blocking histamine type 1 (H1) receptors inhibits the emerging allergic symptoms. The drug relieves, among others: runny nose, sneezing or itching of the mucous membranes, and the active substance contained in it (loratadine) lasts for about 24 hours.

LORATAN PRO – drug action
Loratan pro is an antihistamine II drug with antiallergic properties. Thanks to the active substance, loratadine, it prevents and soothes unpleasant symptoms of allergy that appear both throughout the year and seasonally. Loratadine contained in the preparation has no effect on histamine type 2 (H2) receptors.
LORATAN PRO – indications and dosage
Loratan Pro is intended for people struggling with allergic reactions such as:
- sneezing,
- runny nose
- swelling of the mucosa,
- burning eyes
- chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Dosage of Loratan Pro
Loratan Pro is in the form of capsules (one capsule contains 6,7 mg of sorbitol) and is intended for oral use. Consumed meals increase the absorption of loratadine contained in the drug. It is recommended not to exceed the daily dose, as it may be life or health-threatening (without the doctor’s recommendation, do not use the drug for more than 10 days). Loratan Pro should be stored in a tightly closed container, out of the reach of children. If you have any doubts about the dosage of the drug, consult your doctor.
- Children from 6 to 12 years of age over 30 kg 1 capsule a day,
- Adults and children over 12 years of age 1 capsule a day,
- In patients with severe hepatic insufficiency, initially 1 capsule every 2nd day,
- It is not recommended to use the capsules in children weighing less than 30 kg.
LORATAN PRO – contraindications to the use of the drug
Despite the indications for taking the preparation, unfortunately it cannot always be used. You should not take Loratan Pro if:
- you are allergic to any of the ingredients of the drug,
- you’re pregnant,
- you are breastfeeding.
LORATAN PRO – warnings
Caution should be exercised when taking the drug, as some diseases and ailments may constitute contraindications for taking the preparation. In some situations, it may be necessary to perform medical check-ups and adjust the dosage of the drug.
Take care in taking the drug if:
- you suffer from liver failure,
- you are planning allergic skin tests (the treatment should be discontinued 48 hours before they are performed),
- you have an intolerance to fructose (contains sorbitol),
- you drive motor vehicles and you have a bad reaction to loratadine (it can cause drowsiness and impaired concentration).
LORATAN PRO – interactions
Using Loratan Pro with:
- ketokonazolem,
- erythromycin,
- cimetidine,
causes an increase in the concentration of loratadine in the blood plasma (however, it is not associated with clinical effects). Be aware that this medication may affect the results of allergic skin tests.
LORATAN PRO – side effects
Loratan Pro may cause side effects, but they do not have to occur in all patients taking the preparation. Side effects are usually rare and temporary.
During treatment with the drug, the following may appear:
- headaches and dizziness,
- nervousness,
- tiredness,
- somnolence,
- insomnia,
- increase in appetite,
- nausea,
- dry mouth,
- gastritis,
- tachycardia,
- palpitations,
- alopecia
- rash,
- liver dysfunction
- anaphylactic reactions.
