Lora grape: variety description

Laura grapes are one of the most common amber varieties, distinguished by strong and thriving bushes, with a powerful trunk and dense bunches, with large berries. Good gustatory range, beautiful appearance, uncomplicated growing conditions have provided this variety with particular popularity among winegrowers, who are happy to breed it on their plots.

Distinctive features of the variety “Laura”

The bush of the variety grows strongly, fruiting occurs in the second year after planting. Grape shoots are developing rapidly, more than 80% of which are suitable for fruiting and can give about 50-60 eyes on the bush. In the photo of the Laura grape variety, you can see that the berries are white with a light-green hue, which makes them amber. The thin skin is covered with a slightly waxy coating, and a slight tan may form on exposure to sunlight.

Grapes “Laura” – a delicious variety of Odessa selection

The pulp of the variety has good density and juiciness, as well as a rich and pleasant taste with a nutmeg aroma and a small amount of small seeds.

Despite the fact that the grapes have large bunches, they are well transported and have a long shelf life, they ripen quickly after harvest without losing their taste.

Laura has a high resistance to low temperatures, high humidity, fungal diseases and gray mold infections, which often affect other grape bushes. The ripening period of berries falls on the end of August; with proper care, the yield is high. Bunches of grapes stick well to the bush, which, even with a plentiful harvest, does not allow the berries to crumble.

Young grape bushes are actively growing, they require special care, abundant watering and regular feeding with microelements. For the correct formation of the bush and good fruiting for next year in the fall, the grapes are cut, leaving 4-5 large and healthy shoots. For the prevention of fungal diseases, the bush must be treated in spring with Bordeaux liquid.

The grapes have good winter hardiness, but in the northern regions it is advisable to insulate the Laura bushes. To do this, the trunks must be bent to the ground, fastened and put on top of the insulating material

Any soil is suitable for planting grapes, but it is not advised to plant seedlings near groundwater. The variety is photophilous, so it is better to choose a planting site on the south side, without drafts. When describing the Laura grape variety, I would like to add that in addition to good qualities, grapes have disadvantages:

  • in cold summers, the sweetness of the berries decreases;
  • has an increased interest in wasp families;
  • poorly resists mildew infections.

But despite these minor drawbacks, grapes are very popular with gardeners for their positive characteristics. Berries are used both raw and for making wines, compotes, as well as raisins in cooking. With proper care and low costs, the grapes will delight you with a good harvest of delicious berries of excellent quality.
