Why does a loose stool appear in a child? What tests are worth doing? Should blood tests be performed? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.

Why does the baby have loose stools?

Hello, my 5-year-old son has been with him for some time loose stool. He eats the way he always does, which is why it worries me a bit. He does not complain of abdominal pain. He has no fever, and I have not noticed that he has less appetite. What Will Help Cause Loose Stools? I basically analyzed my son’s entire menu and have no idea what could be causing looser stools. We went to the doctor, he prescribed some medications, including smecte, but I don’t know if I should stuff him with powders, since I don’t know what really is. the cause of loose stools.

Maybe I should do some research? Blood tests? I don’t know and I catch my head, because we had such problems when the child was an infant, but then a loose stool was the norm, because the child only fed on milk. Now I have no idea what could be affecting a loose stool in a 4 year old. I would be very grateful for any advice and options on what causes a loose stool. Maybe I will give my doctor a hint, or I will just sign up the child for some tests. Thank you in advance. Regards.

The doctor indicates the likely causes of loose stool in the child

Diarrhea is the passing of 3 or more liquid or semi-liquid stools a day.

Depending on the duration, diarrhea can be divided into acute or chronic. Acute diarrhea lasts less than two weeks, chronic diarrhea lasts more than two weeks, and their causes vary.

The cause of acute diarrhea usually there is a viral infection, of which 50-70% of cases is caused by infection by rotaviruses, the remaining viruses responsible for the appearance of loose stools are caliviruses, adenoviruses, astrovirus. Less often, diarrhea is caused by bacteria – various strains of E. Coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter, Shiglla, Yersinia, Clostridium, staphylococci. The natural course of diarrhea depends on the causative agent, but most often the disease disappears on its own within a few days.

Treatment of acute diarrhea it is primarily based on fluid replacement, and the diet should be easy to digest, except for products that are not tolerated by the child. The diet should be gradually extended as the diarrhea continues and as the child tolerates the food previously taken. Particularly in viral diarrhea, the use of probiotics, especially those containing Lactobacillus GG and Sacharomyces boulardii, may also be helpful.

However, if the child is in poor general condition, has a fever, does not eat, there is mucus in the stool or blood or diarrhea will persist for more than two weeks and lead to dehydration and malnutrition, it is recommended to go to the pediatrician, he will be able to get a detailed history, perform a physical examination and order additional tests, including blood chemistry, stool tests, including microbiological tests.

In differentiating the causes of diarrhea, the doctor may take into account such diseases as allergy or food intolerance, endocrine diseases, inflammatory bowel disease – Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, bacterial overgrowth syndrome.

However, if the diarrhea disappears after a few days, and the child feels and will feel well, the most likely cause was a viral infection that was dealt with by the child’s body.
