Loose compact powders, reviews

The editorial staff of Woman’s Day tested fashionable powders, which are advised by many makeup gurus, and found out which of the products really deserve attention.

L’Oreal Paris, compact powder Infaillible, 640 rubles

– I started using powders just a few years ago, before I could not change my favorite liquid foundation, and for skin prone to dryness in the cold season, it is difficult to find the perfect dry product.

Expectations: the powder should not dry out the skin and accentuate the flakes! Almost every one of those that I tried made the situation worse, and many also lay down unevenly.

Reality: the first thing I noticed was the sponge, which, unfortunately, was disappointing. It is difficult for them to recruit and distribute the product. In the end, I took my favorite brush and applied the product, after moisturizing the skin with a base (without it, it is better not to apply powder if you have problems with dryness). The product spreads perfectly over the skin and creates a matte finish. By the evening, Infaillible powder slightly dried the skin of the forehead, but not critical. The product does not clog pores and makes the skin perfectly velvety and even, and one more plus – both highlighter and blush fit well on the powder.

Rating: 9 of 10 points. I didn’t like the sponge at all, but in general it’s an excellent product for a reasonable price. For girls with normal skin and skin prone to oily, this powder is perfect.

Smashbox powder, Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder, 2065 rubles

– In my purse there is always a cushion, and in the cabinet of my work desk there is certainly loose powder. Having tried it once, I have always become addicted to products in just such a package. The usual compact powders are unevenly distributed, friable – they provide a perfect thin layer, mask imperfections without weighing down and visually make the skin velvety.

Expectations: we have already written about Smashbox loose powders more than once, I heard a lot of positive reviews, so, I confess, my expectations were too high. I was waiting for … almost the effect, like from rejuvenating apples. However, studying the annotation tempered my ardor. The manufacturers have warned in advance that the product provides a transparent to medium coverage, that is, it is not suitable for those who like to put a thick layer of tone on their face, like me. According to the packaging, the powder also reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Patented hydrating technology for a radiant complexion and a healthy complexion.

Reality: they are greeted by clothes, which means that first of all I appreciated the appearance of the powder box. Quiet and laconic packaging with a small mirror inside and a convenient dispenser net.

By the way, unlike the powder of the previous generation, I did not find brushes for applying the product in the package. If my cosmetic bag did not have one, it would be a significant disadvantage for me.

Regarding the powder itself – here the tool has successfully passed the test. I must say right away that I used Smashbox in a duet with a tonal basis. In all cases, the powder lay down easily and evenly, hiding imperfections that the foundation could not hide. With this product, the skin looks fresh and velvety, that is, the product fulfills its main function.

For my taste, the only negative is the too powdery smell. I am very sensitive to aromas, and therefore would prefer to feel a slight scent of perfume.

Rating: 7 of 10 points. Minus a point for the absence of a brush / sponge, minus two for the smell of powder.

Erborian, 0.09 compact cream-powder, 2700 rubles

– It just so happens that I often come across products of the Korean-French brand Erborian during testing. At first, I jump with delight from their means, and later a severe disappointment comes to me. It happened this time too.

Expectations: My subject is Erborian 0.09 Compact Powder with Ginseng. From her I expect good covering power, easy distribution on the skin, at least minimal matting and no puff cake effect, and at the same time a fat pancake – in short, a standard set. The description for the powder says that it hides imperfections, gives a beautiful complexion, improves skin texture and makes it velvety.

Reality: not so long ago I tested the Erborian BB-cushion, which, in principle, I liked. I even gave him an 8 out of 10. Well, I take my words back. His score is a maximum of 5, or even all 4. It falls through the pores and almost does not mask the flaws. However, in tandem with powder 0.09 it behaves quite well. It is these two products that create the perfect-looking, even and radiant skin without the effect of a mask and a thick layer of “plaster”. The sponge, the texture, the shade (it was perfect for my fair skin, by the way) – everything is fine and flawlessly. But the tool quite clearly emphasizes peeling, even where they are not particularly present, and by the middle of the day it begins to grease the skin. By the end of the working day, the skin is no longer so smooth and perfect in appearance, but some kind of bumpy. Of course, I understand that very few people can last all day … However, my favorite compact powder Almost Powder from Clinique shows much better results.

Rating: 7 out of 10. The powder is not terrible and I will definitely give it another chance. I put pluses for good masking ability, good sponge and nice texture. Cons – for emphasizing peeling and ugly behavior on the face during the day.

Jane Iredale, mineral powder PurePressed® Base SPF 20, about 2400 rubles

– I won’t say that I am a big fan of compact powder, it’s just that my capricious skin perceives foundation and BB creams much better. And to cover up the bruises under the eyes due to constant lack of sleep is better not with loose powder, but with rather dense tonal means. Then there is a chance to disguise the flaws and look quite dignified. But for the sake of our constant column “Wday tests” I decided to experiment and chose a product from Jane Iredale as a test subject.

Expectation: in my opinion, mineral powder should not only perfectly even out the complexion and mask imperfections, but also take care of the skin so that there is no discomfort.

Reality: I liked the idea of the manufacturers – to create something that resembles a constructor, which you can assemble at your discretion. So, for example, you can purchase a complete set or all separately. For example, the price for replaceable blocks (9,9 g) will be about 2400 rubles, and an empty case where these blocks are placed can be purchased for 870 rubles.

And although a sponge can be found in a set with a replaceable unit, however, manufacturers claim that its function is more decorative. A kind of additional protection of the product or mirror from contamination. Therefore, it is better to use a special brush to apply powder. The tool is quite light and loose, so with one touch on the brush you can type exactly as much as you need. The beauty product lays on the skin in an even layer and does not create a mask effect.

However, as I expected, my sensitive skin, prone to dryness, did not accept this product, so after application I got peeling. But for combination skin with imperfections or uneven relief, this powder, which has a good degree of masking and matting, is ideal.

Rating: 8 out of 10. I take off points only for the fact that this product is absolutely not suitable for dry and thin skin.

Ultraceuticals mineral powder, 5500 rubles.

– For the last three years I have been using baked powder. It has a very fine grind, due to which it is almost invisible on the face, and due to its good pigmentation, it perfectly evens the skin tone and masks redness and rashes. I can’t say anything good about Ultraceuticals powder. In my opinion, this product does not suit me at all.

Expectations: manufacturers write very interesting things in the description, which, unfortunately, did not appear in practice. So – the first cosmeceutical powder is not only decorative cosmetics, but also a full-fledged skin care product. Creates a tanned skin effect. Contains micro-reflective particles for a radiant complexion.

Protects against the harmful effects of free radicals. Vitamins C and E have an antioxidant effect, slow down the aging process. Suitable for problem skin, does not clog pores, perfectly masks redness and evens out the complexion.

Reality: By my standards, Ultraceuticals powder is pretty decent, and I was expecting some kind of magic. And in vain! When I applied it to my skin, I had to go to wash. I didn’t like the texture at all, it was uneven, the tone of the face did not even out. As a result, my face looked like I had unsuccessfully experimented with self-tanning. I do not exclude that I just got used to the baked powder, well, or the tone just did not suit me.

Evaluation: I give three to the powder, an unreasonably high price, in my opinion, there are many cheaper products that really please the result.
