Long trips during pregnancy

Travel during pregnancy is allowed if the health of the mother and baby is not a concern

Are travel and pregnancy compatible?

While carrying a child, there are no particular contraindications to an active lifestyle. Are you going to visit your relatives, go on a business trip or spend a long-awaited vacation abroad? Positive emotions won’t hurt, but long trips during pregnancy are not the best way to spend your time. Here are some helpful tips to help you keep your baby safe.

  • Before planning a future trip, you must consult with your gynecologist and obtain permission. A competent doctor will be able to see the risks of complications, warn and protect a woman from mistakes. If there are contraindications – severe toxicosis, the threat of miscarriage, pathology of the placenta, anemia, problems of the cardiovascular system – it is better to refuse the trip or postpone it for later.
  • Change of time and climatic zones, prolonged sitting in the same position, the use of unusual exotic food – all this can negatively affect the development of the fetus. That is why you need to take care of your health in advance. Take your doctor’s business card with you to get advice if you feel unwell. Also collect a travel kit with essential medicines. Before leaving, you need to find out about the quality of the provision of medical services in the city you are going to.
  • The second trimester of pregnancy – 18-30 weeks – is considered the safest time to travel. Travel in the first trimester is undesirable. Most women suffer from toxicosis, malaise and weakness, rest and peace are necessary. During the third trimester, there is a risk of premature birth, therefore, starting from the 30th week, it is better to refrain from non-urgent travel.
  • As for the choice of transport, the best option for the expectant mother is a car or a train. It is advisable that another person, for example, a husband, was driving the car. During the trip, you can stop on the road, walk a little and warm up. It is also convenient to walk on the train on the train, you can lie down and sleep in a comfortable position. Buses, on the other hand, are undesirable transport for traveling during pregnancy.

Monitor your state of health on the way and be healthy!
