Long-term contraception frees you for several years from the regimen required for oral pills, which are not effective if not taken systematically. In addition, you can resign from it at any time and start trying for a child. It can be used by young women who have not yet given birth.

Until recently, in Poland, long-term contraception was considered a method rather for mature women, including those who became mothers. The current criteria of the British Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians and the latest guidelines of the Polish Gynecological Society of March 2014 say that it can be used by young women, including those who have not given birth. Knowledge about the methods of long-term contraception among Polish women is small – according to a study conducted in Poland in October 2013 by GfK Polonia. Every third respondent does not use any methods of contraception, and the most popular form of contraception is still a condom (30% ”) and birth control pills (23%). Young women learn about long-term contraception primarily from the Internet. Text: Halina Pilonis
Contraceptive pills, often used by young Polish women, require regularity. Doctors point out that in order to be effective, unconditional discipline in their use is required. Meanwhile, 60% of women using pills admit that they sometimes do not follow the intake schedule. It is estimated that in the United States, nearly half of the 3 million unplanned pregnancies annually occur in women who use contraception – most often the pill. This risk primarily affects the youngest women, especially those under the age of 20. The greater probability of pregnancy is determined by the higher fertility of young women, often the greater intensity of sexual life, but also the fact that they do not always take into account the consequences of unplanned pregnancy, which may weaken the regularity of dosing necessary in routine contraception. photo: Shutterstock

Intrauterine endocrine system
Intrauterine copper IUD The traditional IUD is a small device, usually T-shaped, made of flexible plastic and copper. The insert should be replaced after three to ten years depending on the type. The effectiveness of the method is 99,4%. The contraceptive effect is the result of the interaction of spermicidal copper ions that destroy or slow down sperm, an increase in the density of cervical mucus and the appearance of white blood cells in it. However, this method carries the risk of worsening your periods. photo: Shutterstock
