Where does a long-lasting cough come from? Does it have to do with smoking?
I have had a terrible cough for 3 weeks. I have no fever, and the antitussive drugs are not helping. I used to smoke a lot, now I try to cut back. What could it be? ~ zyga
Long-term cough is certainly a cause for concern and requires medical consultation. There can be many reasons for it, including less serious ones (infection, respiratory irritation, etc.). However, because you smoke, the more serious causes of coughing, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and even cancer, cannot be ruled out. Please contact a primary care physician immediately, who will be responsible for the comprehensive diagnosis of your ailments.
