Long and deep night sleep extends life

American scientists from the University of Portland (Oregon) have found that long and deep nights sleep extends a person’s life, reports the London Daily Express.

Our research shows: whoever sleeps more lives longer – said the head of research, Prof. Denan Hu.

A group of scientists analyzed the nature of sleep of 15 elderly people, including almost 3 who are already around 100 years old. We found that the average length of their night’s sleep is 7,5 hours, with most centenarians sleeping even longer – up to 10 hours, the professor said.

Experts believe that sleep deprivation or its fragmented nature weakens the immune system of the human body, causing the blood chemistry to change, raising levels of cholesterol and heavy fats. At the same time, the intellectual level lowers and the work of the brain slows down.

American scientists believe that you need to sleep at least 7 hours at night, and better – 8 hours.

Another fact was also established during the research: men, on average, sleep better and deeper at night than women. (PAP)
