Loewe – perfume with history

Today the Spanish brand Loewe is known for its clothing lines and fragrances, but 160 years ago, the story began with completely different things.

Dynasty for dynasty

In 1846, German artisan Enrique Loewe Roessberg moved with his family to Madrid and opened the first shop Loeweselling leather goods. Things were going well and already in 1905 Loewe received the most prestigious status of those days “Supplier of the Royal Court”, which, mind you, is still held by the brand.

The legendary brand was loved not only by the European aristocracy, literary and cinematic elite, but also by royalty from all over the world.

Path uphill

In the 60s, after many years of working with leather goods, the idea of launching women’s and men’s clothing collections arose. To create it, they invited then young, and now legendary designers: Karl Lagerfeld, Laura Biagiotti, Giorgio Armani, Narciso Rodriguesa – they skillfully emphasized the sophistication of the brand.

Development of the territory

Then there were silks, knitwear, accessories, bijouterie, and in 1972 the first fragrance came out. L from Loewe… It was sold only in branded boutiques, but was in such demand that the management of the house decided to tackle this direction closely.

Writer Ernest Hemingway once gave Hollywood actress Ave Gardner, with whom he was very close, a Loewe purse.

1945 to 1978 Loewe boutique windows were designed by the legendary art director of the brand, José Pérez de Roses, turning each of them into a masterpiece.

This is how the first L de Loewe fragrance looked like.
