Living room decor after renovation
To create not only a cozy, but also a functional room for mom and daughter, the designer used a number of planning and decorative techniques.
Living room decor
The room is after renovation.
Design techniques for dividing a single space
1. Partition
When arranging this highly elongated room (aspect ratio of almost 2: 1), the designer proceeded from its functional purpose. So, a low transparent partition appeared between the nursery and the living room-bedroom.
2. Colour
In addition, the resulting parts of the space were delimited by color. The designer settled on a rather bold color scheme. On the “half” of the daughter, the walls were painted in an orange-pink shade, while my mother got a neutral white. And so that the room does not look too “caramel”, she added a rich green and dark brown to the two main colors.
3. Furniture
The rest of the questions were solved with the help of furniture.
They put a bed and a table in the nursery, and a sofa bed, an armchair, a coffee table and a TV stand in the living room-bedroom. A built-in wardrobe was provided for large things.
- On the “half” of the daughter there is everything you need for a comfortable life and study: a comfortable bed and desk, a chair, shelves and even a clock made from an old vinyl record. At the same time, the nursery is almost completely hidden from view: entering the room, you notice only a cozy living room, formed by upholstered and cabinet furniture.
- On the “half” of mom there was a place for your favorite knitting, due to the fact that the layout was thought out very carefully. The allotted space was just enough to put a chair and a floor lamp.
- The stained glass window on the wall, made according to the designer’s sketch, is the element that connects the functional areas. But it also has another purpose: the lamps placed behind the glass create a chamber atmosphere in the room.
- Since the room is overly elongated, its proportions were slightly corrected by placing a built-in wardrobe right at the entrance. Despite its size, it doesn’t look big. This effect was achieved by choosing the facades to match the color of the adjacent walls and abandoning the handles on the doors.
- From glass blocks, a structure was folded up to the height of the window sills, so that the windows were visible directly from the entrance to the room. Nevertheless, the bed hidden behind the partition turned out to be truly isolated from prying eyes.
The task was difficult. The room has many functions: it is a bedroom for mother and youngest daughter, and a common living room. But it was precisely this variety that determined the layout. It seemed to me optimal to divide the room into two zones: the far one, located near the bay window, to be used for the nursery, and in the nearest, the one at the entrance, to organize the mother’s living room and bedroom. As for the style, I borrowed the clear thoughtfulness of the layout and furnishings from minimalism, and the color of the walls and furniture, as well as the materials for the execution of decor items, from the ecological style. Agree, on the carpet on the floor you just want to walk barefoot, as if it were nothing more than a neatly trimmed lawn.
