“Strong is the New Pretty”: little girls, boys like any other!
On the occasion of Women’s Day, we invite you to discover black and white photos that prove that girls are as strong as boys! We often hear that little girls are wiser, more discreet and more fragile than boys. These clichés are rooted in our society. Wishing to break these prejudices, the photographer Kate T. Parker had fun photographing her two daughters and their friends … in a different light. With her series of photos “Strong is the New Pretty”, which was the subject of a book, she shows that girls, far from the image of little princess that they are attributed to them, are also strong, sporty, fearless, messy, happy and frustrated.
« I wanted to celebrate these girls as they are, and not show what is expected of them », Explains the mother. “Initially, this project started because I wanted to keep childhood memories of my children. After a year, that desire organically developed into something different. The images that showed the girls as they were authentically were my favorites, ”says the photographer. For Kate T. Parker, this project is not only beautiful but also “worthy of celebration”. “There is a lot of pressure on girls and women, the path they should follow, their behavior…”, she adds. A beautiful feminist message to try to change mentalitiess. We say bravo!
