“Redemption” (2007) ranks seventh on the list of the best detective films. A feature film directed by Joe Wright based on the novel of the same name by Ian McEuchan. In 2008, the film was awarded two Golden Globe statuettes, as “Best Film” and “Best Music”. The action of the picture takes place in 1935 of the last century. A gifted thirteen-year-old Briony writes plays. She is aware of the love relationship between her older sister Cecilia and the servant’s son Robbie. When Briony’s cousin Lola is raped, she points to Robbie. He goes to prison, and an irreconcilable enmity arises between the sisters. From prison, Robbie is immediately sent to the front, while Cecilia, meanwhile, works in the hospital. Young people have a second chance at finding happiness. Briony begins to realize that she made a terrible mistake by once testifying against Robbie and now decides to atone for her guilt…

“Dogville” (2003) is one of Lars von Trier’s best detective thrillers. It is the first part of the trilogy “USA – Land of Opportunity”. The film describes the events of the 30s of the last century. Trying to escape from gangsters, the girl Grace ends up in the small town of Dogville, located in a mountainous area. Local residents decide to take in a refugee on the condition that she will work for them. Imperceptibly, from a worker, Grace turns into a slave, imprisoned by cruel inhabitants. Meanwhile, the girl is wanted by the police, who accuse her of bank robbery…

“Change” (2008) – American detective thriller directed by Clint Eastwood. The picture is based on real events that happened in the 20s of the last century in Los Angeles. A woman is given back her kidnapped son, who is not her child. The main character makes every effort to find the missing baby, trying to involve the police in this, but to no avail. Then she decides to resort to the help of journalists. The local authorities are trying to hush up the case by accusing the woman of being a bad mother and recognizing her as insane…
4. Disappeared | year 2014
“Gone Girl” (2014) ranks fourth in the list of the best detective films. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn, who remade her work into a screenplay. The events of the film begin with the fifth wedding anniversary of the spouses Amy and Nick Dunn. But returning home, the husband does not find his wife at home and finds traces of violence. The incident is given publicity, and Nick becomes the main suspect in the disappearance of his wife. All the evidence the police find speaks against him. Nick stumbles at every step on the notes left everywhere by the disappeared. Judging by them, the insidious wife wants to take revenge on her husband for something, tying a tangle of suspicions around him, which speak of his involvement in what happened …

The events of the film take place at the end of the 19th century. The criminal is sentenced to death, but he manages to avoid punishment by cunning and escape. “Seven” (1995) ranks second in the list of the best detective films. Old detective William Somerset is preparing to retire and move away from the city and its sinful inhabitants. But a week before his retirement, two unpleasant news fall on the head of the detective: the newcomer Mills assigned to him and the brutal, strange murder. The instinct of an experienced detective tells him that a series of murders will follow the committed crime. And, indeed, Somerset’s assumptions come true in the near future. The handwriting of the murders leads the hero to the idea that the maniac punishes his victims for the committed mortal sins described in the Bible. Somerset faces a difficult choice: wait until he retires and investigate, or hand over the case to a young, inexperienced partner.

Clarissa Starling, a novice FBI agent, is sent to him for a conversation. He agrees to help the investigation only if the girl regales the psychopath’s sick imagination with the details of her personal life. A strange psychological connection arises between them, which helps to solve a complicated case.
