List of reimbursed drugs September 2020. Free drugs for pregnant women and flu vaccinations for seniors

The new list of reimbursed drugs appears every three months, but due to the prevailing pandemic, we had a six-month break. Yesterday, a new list of reimbursed drugs appeared on the website of the Ministry of Health, with a list of free drugs for pregnant women attached to it. What new products will we find on the list?

Flu vaccinations for seniors and children

The new list of reimbursed drugs, foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses and medical devices, i.e. reimbursement list, will apply from September 1, 2020. The good news is also the reimbursement of flu vaccinations for certain social groups. People over the age of 75 will be able to take advantage of the free flu vaccination with Vaxigrip Tetra this year. For people over 65, there will be a partial refund (PLN 22,88 after the discount).

Adults (18 to 65 years of age) will also be able to benefit from a partial reimbursement of the influenza vaccine (Influvac Tetra) if they are classified by their doctor as at increased risk of complications from the flu. The cost of the vaccine after the reduction is PLN 24,95. Important information for parents is that the only available nasal flu vaccine (Fluenz Tetra) will be partially reimbursed – a discount from PLN 95,73 to PLN 47,87.

Free medications for pregnant women as part of the pregnancy + program

The list of free drugs for pregnant women includes 114 items. It included insulins, drugs taken to treat the thyroid gland (Euthyrox, Letrox in various doses), anticoagulants, and progesterone.

Maciej Miłkowski, Deputy Minister of Health for Medicines, assures that the work on adding new drugs to this list is still ongoing and will be modified in the coming months.

Medicines reimbursed from September 2020

The reimbursement list also includes two new treatment options for patients with severe plaque psoriasis – guselkumab (Tremfya) and risankizumab (Skyrizi). A new treatment option has been introduced in the “Treatment of aggressive psoriatic arthritis” program: tofacitinib (Xelijanz). It is the first oral drug of its kind in this program and the first with a new mechanism of action. Tofacitinib will also be a third treatment option for patients with ulcerative colitis. This is the first oral and non-biological option in this program.

Vesicare, which contains solifencacin, will disappear from the reimbursement list. It is used to treat patients with urinary incontinence. Why is the drug not on the new list? As Miłkowski explains on Twitter, the reason was the very high price and payment for the patient.

– There are 12 reimbursed solifenacins available on the market, so patients are fully protected – added the Deputy Minister of Health.

Miłkowski also informed that the Fabry disease treatment program will not be changed from September 1.

– It is related to the ongoing work on the shape of the program. Therefore, the relevant decisions will be issued immediately after their completion (most likely at the beginning of September), but will apply from 1.11, writes the deputy minister.

The full reimbursement list is available on the website of the Ministry of Health.

The editorial board recommends:

  1. Expert: I recommend that you get flu vaccinations commonly
  2. This year everyone should get a flu shot. Will this save us from COVID-19?
  3. WHO chief: we hope the pandemic will end in two years
