Liquor Blue Curacao: 4 recipes at home

Spicy Caribbean liqueur Curacao – Predominantly a cocktail drink. To use it in its pure form, even with ice, is an extremely dubious pleasure.

The alcohol base for this rather strong drink (20-30 degrees) is wine alcohol. In addition to alcohol, the classic composition of Blue Curacao liqueur includes: bitter orange peel, water, sugar, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. But, in principle, light variations are allowed for spices.

Cyan or blue color, as well as yellow, green or orange color, originally transparent liquor receives due to food dyes of vegetable or chemical origin. At the same time, color differences do not affect the taste in any way.

Well, if, nevertheless, the soul or the entourage of the cocktail require, then you can buy the usual food coloring and drop it into the finished drink until it reaches the desired shade.

Classic Blue Curacao Recipe

The proportions of spices offered in the recipe can be adjusted to your liking.

Ingredients

  1. Pure alcohol – 600 ml

  2. Drinking non-carbonated water – 500 ml

  3. Sugar (preferably brown) – 700 g

  4. Chopped zest of ordinary oranges – 30 g

  5. Ground dried peel of bitter oranges – 30 g

  6. Crushed cinnamon – 1-2 sticks

  7. Nutmeg – 10 g

  8. Cloves – 7 pieces

Method of preparation

  1. Put the whole zest in a jar and pour alcohol.

  2. Place a tightly closed vessel for 20 days in a dark, warm place, shaking it every 3-4 days.

  3. After the specified period, add cinnamon and nutmeg and let the future drink brew for another 5-7 days.

  4. Then, add cloves and hold the jar in a warm, dark room for a couple more days.

  5. When the tincture, in your opinion, has reached the desired condition, boil a simple syrup from water and sugar.

  6. While the syrup is cooling to room temperature, do a very thorough filtering of the alcohol infusion.

  7. Pour alcohol into the syrup, mix the result thoroughly and bottle.

  8. Send the drink to the cellar or refrigerator, where it must mature for 3 months.

Curacao recipe with rum

As the saying goes: walk so walk! Since the Caribbean means rum.

Ingredients

  1. Pure alcohol – 500 ml

  2. Light rum – 250 ml

  3. Water – 500 ml

  4. Linden or acacia honey – 500 g

  5. Chopped zest of an ordinary orange – 30 g

  6. Chopped zest of bitter orange or mandarin – 30 g

  7. Macis (aka – nutmeg color) – 5 g;

  8. Cinnamon – 1-2 sticks

  9. Chopped vanilla – ½ stick

Method of preparation

  1. Put the zest and spices in a jar and pour over alcohol.

  2. Keep a tightly closed container for 3-4 days in a warm, dark place, shaking vigorously once a day.

  3. After the specified period, very carefully strain the resulting infusion.

  4. Boil syrup from water and honey, not forgetting to remove the foam. Make sure that the temperature does not rise above 45 degrees.

  5. Remove syrup from heat.

  6. Pour the alcohol into the still hot syrup in a thin stream.

  7. The result is well stirred, cooled and bottled.

  8. Keep the drink in the cellar or refrigerator for 4 months.

Liquor a la Curacao with gin

This option allows you to significantly reduce the list of necessary spices.

Ingredients

  1. Vodka – 1 l

  2. Simple unpretentious gin – 1 l

  3. Water – 1,5 L

  4. Sugar – 1,5 kg

  5. Chopped zest from 12 tangerines

  6. Dried ground bitter orange peel – 60 g

  7. Cloves – 32 pieces

Method of preparation

  1. Transfer the entire zest to a jar and pour alcohol over it.

  2. Keep a tightly closed container for 20 days in a warm, dark place, shaking well every 3-4 days.

  3. On the 20th day, add cloves to the jar and insist the liquid for another day.

  4. From all the sugar and water available, cook a simple syrup.

  5. While the syrup is cooling to room temperature, carefully strain the alcohol base.

  6. Mix the syrup with alcohol, pour the drink into bottles and cork them tightly.

  7. The result is another 2-3 months to insist in a cool dark room.

Curacao recipe with apple peel

Ingredients

  1. Alcohol – 2 l

  2. Apples – 10 pcs.

  3. Orange – 6 pcs.

  4. Lemon – 3 pcs.

  5. Sugar – 1 kg

  6. Water – 3 L

  7. Anise – 15 g

  8. Cloves – 4 g

  9. Cover – 2 g

Method of preparation

  1. Remove the peel from apples (preferably not overripe), add thinly cut peel of oranges and chopped lemons with peel.

  2. Put all this in a jar, pour alcohol and leave for a week.

  3. Strain the resulting tincture, add the cooled sugar syrup from water and sugar, as well as anise, cloves and cinnamon.

  4. Infuse for up to 4 weeks, then strain and bottle.
