Most species are annuals. Only in warm winters, when the frosts do not exceed 20˚C, the spongy manages to survive until spring. For the winter, it is better to transplant plants into greenhouses.

Description of the lipstick:

  • Grows up to 60 cm in height. There are varieties with erect and creeping shoots.
  • Flowering occurs in July-September. Inflorescences up to 5 cm in size, unusual shape. There are solid or leopard colors, namely red, yellow, orange, with burgundy or pink spots.
  • The flowering field is formed by the fruit. The box contains small seeds with which you can propagate the flower.

All types of sponges prefer lighted areas with moist soil. They feel most comfortable on a damp bank near a river or in a swampy area. Some varieties, such as Red Imperer and Andian Nymph, can be grown in a flower bed, but they need to provide sufficient moisture.
