We hope that after reading this article, you will want to get a lip scrub, and maybe even make it yourself at home – practical tips and delicious recipes below.
Why do you need a lip scrub?
Do you need to exfoliate your lips? Of course, because it is thin here, it often suffers from dryness and flaking, which not only causes discomfort, but also does not look very attractive. In addition, lipstick falls unevenly on rough lips, which looks untidy.
Using a scrub 1-2 times a week will relieve the skin of the lips from roughness, give them softness, smoothness, and a well-groomed appearance. Yes, make-up will last longer. In addition, massage with abrasive particles improves blood microcirculation, so after scrubbing the natural color of the lips becomes more saturated and juicy.
How to choose a lip scrub
It must be admitted that lip scrub is a specific product and not the most common. Apparently, most consumers, at least not yet, are not ready to purchase a separate lip exfoliator and prefer more practical options:
facial scrub;
homemade lip scrub (below we will tell you how to make a lip scrub at home and offer recipes).
As for purchased products, face scrubs can really be suitable for scrubbing the lips, but not any:
choose soft scrubs – with a small amount of small exfoliating particles, preferably oil-based; such products provide gentle exfoliation;
read the annotation – if the instructions say that the scrub is applied “avoiding the area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXbthe eyes and lips”, it is clear that this scrub cannot be used on the lips.
To make your life easier, we have selected a couple of scrubs that we can safely recommend for exfoliating the skin of the lips.
Sugar scrub for face and lips “Nourishing”, L’Oréal Paris
Illuminating Face & Lip Sugar Scrub, L’Oréal Paris
Another sugar scrub for face and lips, which contains a gentle abrasive – acai powder, and is also enriched with monoy oils, grape seed oils and vitamin E. It is very comfortable to use, softens and nourishes the skin, gently exfoliating it.
How to use a lip scrub
The skin of the lips is vulnerable and naturally quite defenseless. This feature must be taken into account when using an exfoliating lip scrub, whether it is a homemade or purchased product. The procedure is best done before going to bed to give the skin a chance to recover. Applying a lip balm or lip mask after exfoliation is also important and very effective.
Remove make-up from lips with micellar water and a cotton pad.
Rinse your lips and pat dry with a tissue or towel. The skin must be clean and dry. There is no need to steam the skin of the lips – there are no pores on it that need to be opened and cleaned.
Apply a small amount of scrub to your lips.
Make gentle circular massage movements with your fingertips, gently rolling the abrasive over the surface of the skin.
The second option: apply the composition in a circular motion.
Massage should take 30-60 seconds, no more.
Rinse off the composition – you can do this with a sponge or towel moistened with warm water.
Dry your lips with blotting motions. Don’t rub!
Apply lip balm, lip balm or mask immediately to provide protection and nourishment.
How to make a DIY lip scrub
Making a lip scrub at home is pretty easy. Moreover, this is a pleasant and rewarding business, since it does not require a large number of ingredients and special skills, and the resulting product will do its job perfectly. In addition, everything from which you will prepare a lip scrub at home is delicious and fragrant products: honey, sugar, coffee and noble oils.
A lip scrub can be made with edible ingredients.
In fact, for a basic scrub, you only need two ingredients:
abrasive (sugar, salt, coffee grounds);
base – any vegetable oil of your choice: coconut, shea, olive, almond, cocoa and even sunflower.
Base oils can be varied, combined and enriched with essential oils (pink, lavender) – it all depends on your imagination. Just keep in mind that essential oils are very active substances and can be quite strong allergens, so be careful and test the scrub on the skin of your wrist first (in this area it is easier to notice a negative skin reaction).
Sugar lip scrub
This sugar scrub is made with honey, one of the most popular ingredients in homemade lip scrubs.
1 ½ tsp olive oil;
2 Art. liter. sugar;
1 tsp liquid honey.
Mix all ingredients until smooth. Sprinkle with sugar if you like.
Coffee scrub
This lip scrub is made with a blend of coffee and honey to exfoliate and soften lips.
Mix 1 teaspoon of medium-ground coffee and honey. You can add quite a bit of oil.
Scrub with honey
Natural candied honey is an excellent exfoliant in itself. Sugar grains will exfoliate the skin during the “honey massage” of the lips and are easily washed off with water. You can pre-lubricate the lips with olive oil – for a more delicate procedure.
Or here is another recipe for a moisturizing honey lip scrub that you can easily make at home:
1 tsp coconut oil;
2 tsp brown sugar;
½ st. l. warm water.
Mix butter with honey, add sugar and water, stir and use immediately.
Eliminate honey from all recipes if you are allergic to this product!
Chocolate lip scrub
1 tbsp. l cocoa powder;
2 tbsp. l. brown sugar (can also be white);
2 drops vanilla extract (non-alcoholic)
¾ h. l. Teddy bear;
2 tsp olive oil.
Mix all the ingredients, apply a small amount of the mixture on the lips, store the rest of the scrub in the refrigerator.
Lip scrub coffee-mint
2 Art. liter. sugar;
½ tsp. cocoa and ground coffee;
1 tsp avocado or grape seed oils;
3 drops of peppermint oil.
Combine dry ingredients, add oils and stir.
