Lip mask

Stick, balm, lip balm – these lip care products won’t surprise us, but what about a lip mask? We offer to figure out what it is, what it consists of, what are its features and whether it is possible, if desired, to cook it yourself.

What is a lip mask

The lip mask is a relatively new format for lip care products. When compared to a balm, quite often (but not always!) It has a richer texture and concentrated composition.

There are several types of lip masks.

  • Night, close in essence to a balm, is applied at night in a thick layer, but can also be used as an SOS moisturizer during the day.

  • Exfoliating An enzyme-based mask is applied for just a few minutes, removing peeling and moisturizing the skin along the way. Such masks are easiest to find in the assortment of Korean manufacturers.

  • Patches – also an Asian product, which is one large patch, with which you need to close your mouth and wait until your lips become bright and plump. Fashionable, funny, but not too comfortable.

Which mask to choose: homemade or purchased

It is difficult to unequivocally answer this question, everyone chooses their own option, but we at Healthy-Food still prefer ready-made products – they are less hassle, and the effect is more predictable.

Composition

Of course, ready-made masks and lip balms have a richer and more precise composition. But since they are quite often based on waxes and oils, they are easy to make at home.

Efficiency

Finished cosmetic products have proven efficacy and are also tested for safety. Still, lips are a delicate area. Especially you need to be careful with homemade masks to increase the volume of the lips, which, as a rule, add irritating and burning components.

Convenience

Needless to say, purchased products are more convenient to use, have a pleasant texture, and smell appetizing. At home, it is difficult to reproduce all these qualities.

Rules for the use of lip masks at home

Lip masks can be used in two ways.

  1. As the night care, in this case, the composition is applied in a thick layer and left overnight.

  2. As a means of rapid responseif the lips need to be urgently put in order and prepared for applying lipstick or gloss. The mask is also applied in a thick layer and kept for 10-15 minutes, the excess is removed with a napkin.

It is clear that any cosmetic product is supplied with instructions, which must be read before use.

However, if you do not have a lip mask, then nothing prevents you from generously applying a moisturizing / nourishing balm or lip oil for the night or for half an hour. The exception is exfoliating masks, which are kept on the lips for just a couple of minutes. And here it is risky to show initiative.

How to make a lip mask: recipes

Making your own lip mask is pretty easy. The main thing is that the ingredients are edible and that you do not have to rinse your mouth if you inadvertently licked off the mixture.

Butters (vegetable solid oils) are an ideal base for lip masks.

  1. Batters are solid oils: coconut, shea, cocoa, mango. They need to be melted in a water bath, in the microwave or just in heat (some of them become liquid already at a temperature of 35 ˚С), mixed with other ingredients, poured into a jar and used as needed. Make sure that the oil is not too hot and does not burn your lips. If there are no butters, then Vaseline can be used as a base.

  2. Honey. A fragrant, sweet substance rich in nutrients, it is easily compatible with oil components and is great for a mask. Of course, if you know for sure that you are not allergic to honey.

  3. Beeswax. If you set a goal, you can use it in the kitchen to prepare a lip balm (mask) that looks like a finished product.

Moisturizing

Mask with honey and yogurt

  1. Mix 1 tsp. yogurt or sour cream and 1 tsp. honey (liquid or candied).

  2. Mix well until smooth.

  3. Apply the composition on the lips for 5-7 minutes.

  4. Wipe gently with a towel or paper towel.

Thanks to lactic acid, this mask will exfoliate the skin of the lips, and grains of sugar in the texture of honey will help her with this. Just remember that honey is an allergen.

Homemade lip masks should be edible.

Nutritious

Nourishing anti-dryness balm

  1. Take in equal parts coke oil and natural wax (it is better to grate it beforehand).

  2. Melt the mixture in a water bath or microwave (do not boil).

  3. Cool slightly and pour into containers.

  4. Put in the refrigerator.

When the mixture hardens, your balm-mask is ready.

Lemon honey balm

  1. Melt one tablespoon each of wax, coconut oil and shea butter in a water bath.

  2. Beat in 1 tbsp. l. honey

  3. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil.

  4. Cool and pour into a jar.

A lip mask can be made from the most familiar products.

Restorative

  1. Mix equal parts cocoa, coconut and shea butters.

  2. The composition can be enriched with any vegetable oil: olive, avocado, jojoba – choose at your discretion.

  3. Mix the ingredients until smooth.

Keep refrigerated. Use as needed.

To increase the volume of the lips

To increase the volume of the lips, ingredients are used that promote active blood flow to the application area. For these purposes, “hot”, burning spices and essential oils are used. But we strongly do not recommend taking chances and resorting to such methods, because the effect of lip plumpness is achieved due to swelling and irritation. Somehow inhumane.
