Lioton – indications, contraindications, dosage, side effects

Lioton is a drug used in family medicine and angiology, it affects the cardiovascular system. It has anti-swelling, anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant properties. Lioton is available as a gel without a prescription.

Indications for the use of Lioton

The active substance of Lioton is heparin, which has anticoagulant properties. The drug is used as an aid in superficial diseases, subcutaneous hematomas, contusions, swellings, as well as in the prevention and treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids.

Dosage: 3–10 cm of Lioton gel should be gently massaged into the skin 1 to 3 times a day.

Lioton and contraindications and warnings

Contraindications to the use of Lioton are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or parahydroxybenzoic acid esters,
  2. bleeding,
  3. open wounds, mucous membranes,
  4. infected skin,
  5. skin lesions of unknown etiology.

Lioton – warnings

  1. The preparation in the form of a gel is intended for external application to the skin.
  2. Particular care should be taken in people who have a hemorrhagic diathesis.
  3. Lioton is not recommended for use in children.
  4. Before using the drug in pregnant women or during breast-feeding, a doctor should be consulted; there are no data on the safety of the preparation in this period.
  5. The eyes and mucous membranes should be protected against contact with the preparation.
  6. Using this medicine for too long may lead to an allergic reaction such as redness, rash, itching, burning or erythema.
  7. Lioton has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Lioton with other drugs

The use of Lioton may increase the effect of oral anticoagulants on the prolongation of prothrombin time.

Lioton – side effects

Hypersensitivity reactions such as redness and itching of the skin may very rarely occur.
