Linseed oil for hair

This oil, rich in valuable fatty acids, is a regular resident of health food stores. It is cooked on it, it is added to salads and cereals. Is linseed oil good for hair? We tried to figure it out.

Benefits of flaxseed oil for hair

Healthy-Food has written more than once about oils – jojoba, coconut and argan, about how they nourish and moisturize hair, add strength and shine to them. And these are scientifically proven facts! For example, in this study, argan oil was found to be effective in protecting hair from oxidative damage. And this claims that coconut oil penetrates the hair and protects it from protein loss, helping damaged strands become stronger and healthier. It was not possible to find scientific research about the benefits of flaxseed oil for hair when applied externally. However, this does not mean that it does not exist.

Our experts talk a lot about the benefits of flaxseed oil for hair. Dermatocosmetologist, trichologist Maria Nevskaya convinced that it:

  • moisturizes well, eliminates dryness and brittleness (linseed oil masks are especially useful for dry hair);

  • strengthens hair roots;

  • facilitates combing and styling;

  • adds shine to strands.

Linseed oil masks perfectly moisturize and strengthen hair.

It is said that the use of linseed oil for hair at home:

  • prevents their loss (some use flaxseed oil for hair growth);

  • softens split ends;

  • fights dandruff.

Linseed oil masks are especially beneficial for dry hair.

Hair cosmetics with oils

Manufacturers love vegetable oils and add them to every second regenerating and nourishing shampoo, not to mention balms and masks. And all because they form a protective film on the hair, smooth, give the curls softness and shine. Below are the oil-based products (not just flaxseed oil for scalp and hair) that we love at Healthy-Food. If you’ve tried them, please share your experience in the comments or leave a review on our Pick a Product page.

Use of linseed oil at home

How to use linseed oil for hair? There are two ways.

In its pure form

It can be applied to the root zone without diluting. Before use, flaxseed oil for hair is slightly warmed up (it is more pleasant to use it in a warm form, and it is absorbed faster), rubbed into the roots and gently distributed over the entire length of the hair. Then the head is covered with a film, wrapped in a towel. Leave on for 30-60 minutes and wash off with shampoo.

Flaxseed oil is thick in texture and can weigh down hair and clog pores. Test it on a small patch of skin first.

In masks

Is it possible to use flaxseed oil for hair as part of balms and masks? Of course. The oil will become a conductor for the beneficial substances that are in other components of the masks. Hair will quickly receive the necessary nutrition. Simply add 2-3 drops to your favorite cleanser and use as usual.

Use unrefined oil – only it contains all the necessary nutrients.
