How to grow outdoors
First you need to choose the bulbs. These should only be healthy specimens without damage. They need to be planted in the warm season, but if it is winter outside, you can plant them in a pot for rooting.
To make the lily bloom pleasing to the eye, you need to choose a growing place and prepare it for planting. The flower loves sunlight very much, so you need to plant it in open areas. Some varieties will even be capricious when grown under rare trees, as partial shade does not suit them.
The soil can be neutral or slightly acidic. Some varieties feel great on calcareous soils. It is important that the water does not stagnate, so it is recommended to add sand.
Before planting, you need to carefully inspect the bulbs. If they are a little wilted and dry, it is enough to put them in a container with wet sand. A few days after such a procedure, they can be safely planted in the ground. Places of rot must be removed and treated with fungicides. Normally, the bulb should be firm, smooth.
When planting a bulb, it is necessary to bury it to a depth equal to its length multiplied by three. This will prevent freezing in winter and overheating in summer. It is better to increase the distance between flowers. Otherwise, the risk of fungus increases.
Features of planting in a pot
If desired, lilies can be successfully grown in a pot on the balcony. A layer of coarse sand must be laid in the planting container to prevent stagnant water. Next, fertile soil is laid. It can be ready-made soil or your own composition. You can plant 3-4 bulbs in one pot. The size of the container should be approximately equal to the diameter of the flower of an adult plant.
Watering should be moderate, but not allowed to dry out. You need to put the pot on the sunny side.
Is it possible to grow a lily from seeds
If there are no bulbs of the desired variety, but there are seeds, you can try to grow a flower from them. To do this, a container with soil for lilies is taken, seeds are laid out on it and covered with glass or film on top. Sprinkle the seeds with soil to a height of no more than a centimeter.
Depending on the variety chosen, lilies germinate within a month. If the plantings are too dense, they can be seated. Keep the container warm and always keep the soil moist. The very next year, it will form a strong bulb that can be planted in open ground.
All lilies respond well to fertilizers. But you need to choose them carefully. For beginners, it is better to take ready-made compositions.
