Women who sleep less than five hours a day are more likely to be overweight, American scientists have established under the guidance of Dr. Sanjay Patel (Sanjay Patel) from the University of Cleveland (USA). The study involved 70 middle-aged women: they recorded their weight every two years for 000 years. It turned out that if the duration of sleep was five hours or less, the woman gained an average of 16 kg in weight during the observation period.
There has been evidence that lack of sleep leads to obesity, but such a large-scale study has not been conducted before. It was believed that sleep deprived people eat a lot and therefore get better. But research has shown that those who sleep longer eat more. Scientists suggest that the duration of sleep affects the metabolic rate: with a lack of sleep, the metabolism slows down and calories are burned more slowly. Another possible reason is a decrease in the level of daily physical activity: a sleep-deprived person prefers to sit more than stand or move.
